Capt. DeBlasio had out the Ned George charter Friday to Saturday and trolled the east wall of the Hudson the entire afternoon and produced one skip jack. At night right on the 100-square they did have a little action pulling the hook on a nice sword after 30 minutes, landing and releasing a white marlin and boating a 125 mako. In the morning at they hooked 3 big-eyes on Canyon Runner spreader bars, ballyhoo and green machine and boated 2. One was 172 pounds the other around 160. That was all the action they had on the troll.
On Saturday to Sunday Capt. DeBlasio had out the Steve Wiggins charter and arrived at the Hudson Canyon around 6pm. They trolled for 1.5 hours but to no avail. On the chunk at night if you close your eyes and look around that is what they caught - zero. Up on the troll in the morning there were about 50 boats right on the numbers so the good big-eye bite did not materialize. They scratched and clawed all day and pulled out 5 yellowfin on the troll but only 3 were keepers up to 35 pounds.
We cancelled Sunday/Monday’s trip due to the lack of fish and went our Monday/Tuesday with the Scott McCloughan charter who knew exactly what to expect but wanted their shot at big-eyes – they got it. They left the dock at 10am Monday and worked the entire east wall of the Hudson finding big-eyes again at 100-square hooking a single that got tail wrapped and broke off and then immediately thereafter hooking a double. Two of the three big-eyes ate our Canyon Runner Green Machine Bars and I believe the 3rd ate a ballyhoo. The bites came around 6:30pm. They did absolutely nothing at night and came home around an uneventful morning troll. Back at the dock the big-eyes weighed 203 and 175.
