Default Attaching 130 Reels to Rods - Rod Braces?

How important is it to use the ROD BRACES when attaching the reel to the rod?

I've always used them but heard that they really dont make a difference.

(The rod braces are the parts that go from the reel to the underside of the rod).

My thinking would be that an extra bit of protection/security would be worth it... They are not that obtrusive, and they come with the reel, so why not??? Better to have them on then have something catastrophic happen and then wish you put them on... I have foward Braces on my 80's and foward and rear braces on my 130's..

The little extra weight on a 130 will not matter if you have them I'd use them. The real key on the braces is they help in stopping the torque in the reel as you crank. A 130 is a huge reel and with putting 30-50lbs of drag on there you want to make sure it says put on the reel seat.

When strapped in a chair and running 50+ lbs of drag on the 130 all thats connecting the reel to the rod is the reel seat and under clamp. Front and rear clamps are added security to take the stress off of the 4 real seat screws and the brace bolts that are connected to the bottom of the frame.
