I shopped around and eventually ended up with birdsall aluminum holders. They have horizontal and vertical options. The quality is top notch. I used cut pieces of bicycle tube between the rod holders and t-top frame to protect everything from scratches or corrosion. I chose aluminum because they're lighter and I didn't want unnecessary stress on the t-top. My second choice was Lees.

I have 4 of the Taco adjustables on my pipework, and I like them alot. They already come with rubber bushings to protect points of contct, and help provide a nice grip..Fairly resonable price too IMO.. I like the fact that I can position them as I please.. I may add a couple more..Here is a pic. you can see them over my right shoulder.

I've got 10 on my tower - they are all Lee's anodized aluminum. They come in vertical and horizontal models for all 5 common pipe diameters (1" to 2-3/8") - plus with aluminum, unlike s/s, you won't have to isolate them from the hardtop. Cheapest I found them was $80 at www.hodgesmarine.com

We have 2 of the Lee's and 2 of the Taco adjustable. If I could have went with all Lee's I would have, but I needed the adjustability of the Taco for a weird angle that the Lee's vertical or horizontal could not satisfy. The Tacos are nice, but not as nice as the Lee's IMO.

I have seen the birdsall as well and they are very nice. So if the vertical or horizontal will work, either Lee or Birdsall.

I have a smith and it holds very well and do reccomend them. I bough a few taco drop down holders they but they do slip on the bars. the Taco are nice but smith has by far a more secure mouting system in my opinion.
