No specific recommendation on the knot to use but here is a useful knot website

You want to use a 200 lb mono or flouro top? I would say its gonna be hard to tie ANY satisfactory "knot" in 200 lb. Why not use a swivel (spectra side palomar) and a crimp (mono side) and a shorter top?

Spro wind on swivel if your topshot is that big. Crimp the mono and tie the braid.

If you're talking braid to fluoro or mono, this is a great smooth knot:

Very strong, very easy to tie!

No a Chinees finger splice will not work with solid braid, the braid needs to be hollow. A crimped 200 lb mono connection is going to be pretty big. The wind on swivel will go through the eyes ok but the crimped loop in the 200lb mono my have a tough time.. My want to change to hollow spectra.

I'd go with a swivel as well.

Make /buy a 200# wind on top shot and use a loop to loop using a 30 turn bimini twist on your 200# solid braid, If its not too late , I'd send the Berkley back and go with all Jerry Brown hollow core with the mono top shot. Any other connection will be big and bulky to wind through rollers .

I'd agree short of switching to hollowcore to attach a dacron loop to teh mono or just buy a premade windon and go loop to loop with a bimini in the braid--very slim connection and pretty snag free.

Get a 5 yd piece of 200# greenspot dacron and you can spice the braid into one end and the mono into the other with a chinese finger. You can make your own rigging needle with a piece of 60# SS wire about 2' long then folded in two. You will need to secure both ends with rigging floss and glue so somebody is going to have to teach you how to do that but you can have a knotless splice with what you have.

HEY guys,i noticed that the spectra does not appear to be solid afterall, as i inserted a needle 3"quickly,so i think with some patience,i can splice it in the spectra.do you reccomend splicing at least 5'of mono in the spectra?after this is done,i'm not finished, right?hey,i want to thank everyone who took the time to help me out. marc

Marcus,go to the blackwater, or JB websites they have tutorials. Also, go to the long range forum over at Bloodydecks.com where you have posted this same question. In the long range forum, there are tutorials and instructions on the splice.for example http://www.bhptackle.com/pages.php?pageid=15 http://www.360tuna.com/forum/f10/spl...-xp-65-a-2504/

you can also get the swifty splice kit, the JB kit, The Sato kit as well as advice, from charbait.com.
