Default Penn Torque spinning rods

Do you guys think that these rods have enough backbone to catch footballs? I love the grip feel and the quality looks awesome. I would be using a Fin Nor offshore reel and butterfly jigs. If it isnt strong enough? What should I be looking for? As always..Thanks

Make sure the reel you are going to use fits the reel seat on the torque rod. I picked up 2 Penn torque casting rods (80-130) and the Penn Torque 300 reels I have do not fit the Fuji reel seat that well. I'm pretty sure that the Torque 100's, 200's and 300's all share the same Reel Foot. I had to force the reel foot into the reel seat at an angle to get them deep enough and then force them down to seat up against the reel seat so I could get the front hood over the other end of the reel foot. Otherwise only about 1/8" of the reel foot was being held You would think that the rods would have been checked with the reels they designed them for BEFORE they put them on the market. If that's they way they are supposed to fit then PENN should fix the Reel Foot. The Trinidad's and saltiga reels fit the rods correctly. Oh and if you want to use the reel clamp, your going to have to place the bolts on the reel before you mount the reel to the rod. Not a big deal but it's quite cumbersome. It's alot easier if you have a third hand.

Although I like the feel of the rods, the workmanship on the set of rods I picked up is not that great. I'm hoping it's only a bad batch of rods from china that I managed to find! I had quite a discouraging conversation with Penn and the Sales Manager in charge of these rods and since the rod division was sold to Shakespeare, I don't think there is a single person that can give you a straight answer to what is going on between them and Penn. In fact, I'm still holding my breath waiting on a reply from either the Sales Manager at Shakespeare or the Quality assurance engineer at Penn concerning some specific questions regarding the differences in the blank diameters and the finish between two identical models. There is definitely a quality issue with the casting series I have. The first excuse I got from them concerning the rod blanks visual appearance does not jive with the measurements I took along the blanks. The rod actions also seem to be slightly different between the two. 2 brand new rods that I purchased at the same time from the same store and from the same lot and I can tell you that both rods are going back. From the initial answers I got, I guess I should be expecting one of the rods to break under load. I can go into greater details on the specifics if anyone is interested.
