Default TLD 25 Question

What is the easiest way to keep line from building up in the center of the reel?

Move the line back and forth across the spool with your thumb as you reel in.

Sorry Bender, the thumb trick mentioned above is really the only way...

It does get to be second nature after a while. I don't even think about it anymore....

Thanks guys, I am an inshore fishing convert, trying to get away from the level wind mentality.

Next time out using the TLD25...pay all the line out behind a slow trolling boat. Then reel it in using the thumb method. Two or three times reeling in 300+ yards and you'll have it down.

By the way, I believe the the reason that big offshore reels don't have levelwinds is that, in the past anyway, they were prone to failure when big fast striking fish hit.

When I was a kid I used to kingfish off the piers with a Penn 309 levelwind...while that never failed, the reel actually comes with a spare "pawl" screwed into the sideplate...the pawl being the part that fails...
