Default Conflict Resolution

I'll keep it real short, I was ripped off and I'm really hot about it. Put $329.22 of fuel in a man's (?) boat after an agreement to "split costs equally" during the tournament this past weekend. After putting that $329.22 in his boat (a 25 contender with twin 200's) he suddenly came up with a new agreement: you pay all of the fuel costs. There's a few of you out there that know the team. I was one of three fishing this boat on day one.

Help me fix the problem before I do something stupid.

BTW....this man (?) also told me "don't bring a lunch or drinks....I provide them to my crew....buddy.....pal". So I didn't....and during his "renegotiation" of the agreement after I paid for the fuel, he brought up that a portion of the $329.22 would be for the lunch he provided to me. "I said I would provide them to my crew, I said nothing about them being free" he says.

And the water/soda surcharge...

And king rigs (8.00 each he says) How he figures out which rig's I was responsible for is beyond me. I provide the rigs I use on my boat when people fish with me. Free of charge to all crew, call me crazy.

And blue runners that his boat caught the day prior (said he used $800.00 of fuel to catch them) he had about 30 in the well. (that math comes out to $26.66 ea)

And the rum he provided (which was about one 8 oz glass)

And the Entry Fee which was paid by his company which he said I owed nothing in the original agreement....which then changed to "buddy pal you gotta pay your third now that you filled up my boat you suckka"

And the $10.00 signup fee, gotta pay my third of that. ($3.33 more)

And then there is the boat maintenance....

F'ing list went on and on. How much do you all think I should charge this fool for the 4 limes I bought for his one 8 oz glass of rum he provided? My math says to break this guy down like a two piece shotgun. I restrained myself quite well despite the blood vessels popping on my neck. This maddest I've been since age 16. I don't need suggestions on how to bury living people to their necks in the surf line and waiting for high tide, or how to destroy his boat, house, car, etc. There a few people here on THT that might be able to get it resolved without bloodshed.

On another note I fished day two with a gentleman from Pinellas Park on his 34 Fountain with trip 275v's, my fuel bill split four ways $150.00, and twice the distance of day one.
Johnny...I owe you some cigars.

Sure seems like someone was taking advantage of the situation. The captain will surely be fishing alone with these kind of tactics. What goes around comes around, usually. I would want payback myself, but as I get more experienced (older), I avoid these kind of folks. You will not get your money back, anything else will cost you more money and your reputation. Now recounting that story over a few cold ones right before the next tournament, priceless!

My advice: Lesson learned. Move on, and fish with someone else. What goes around usually comes around. He will get his eventually, though he might not understand it...

Ed I'm suprised at you and yet impressed with your restraint. Next time call me and we'll run your your boat or mine in the little guy class, drink all day burn very little gas and maybe get lucky. Hell I jumped a big smoker off the 5 mile on Sunday fishing a piltcher.

Oh yeah lets see, 5 hours trolling 18 miles off is about 12 gallons of gas on the Baitkiller You owe me 24$ sucker....pay up.

And Cameron (son#1) will Sabiki all the B runners you want for free.

Sorry dude but look a the bright side. What would your share of a blown power head be if Capt. Asshat popped one while fishing?

First question
does he know that you do not agree with his prices and how he modified the parameters of the agreement after the boat was filled? If not, you need to cordially let him know and give him an opportunity to respond before moving forward.

I say...He broke it down like that, then break down your services too. Each time you cleared a line it cost him X amount of $$. For each bait rigged it cost him X amount of $$. For backing the boat in the water it cost him X amount of $$. Let him know you fished with him because he needed a crew member, an employee of his, thus can be interpreted as a paid position. Now throw in your man hours expended from the start of the day until the end, multiply that by X amount of $$. When he complains about your math, remind him about his. This may open his eyes as to how he sounds to you and how crazy he is.

Good Luck.........................

John, how about a fishing trip in two weeks? We can follow Capt. Azzz around during the Ft. Myers T and cast snag trebles across his spread all day long. My boat is faster than his, he will not get away from us.

Gas is on me.....

And the rum....

And the snag trebles....

I fished with Capt. Johnny on his 34 Fountain aka King Slayer on day two...class act. Mambo will never understand his actions till it bites him in the azz.

Ludicrous
It's stuff like that is why my wife and I quit fishing on the Mary Sea fishing team in the ASA circuit. We are fishing on our own from now on with real friends not pretend friends that just want to use you. Fish with some one else or if you can do it your self it's even better. Good luck with whatever you do.

If you had a gentlemans agreement on what the costs were and he altered it after you shelled out the cash then I would say you are entilted to atleast the difference in his gear. The repo man cometh I would say.

Is THAT what I spend while hooking all those runners? I gotta find a cheaper hobby.

How often does he check lower unit oil? Just kidding but that could be a very bad day for someone.

ehh the hell with it... go to the dock, untie his lines and just leave...hopefully the boat will drift out somewhere nice and get salvaged to a new and more loving home... Or, in a more subdued mood... you could always leave a sign on it... Free Boat: Yours if you can cover operating expenses!

Is this guy a licensed charter captain? If not, he is way beyond splitting reasonable expenses and is running a for-hire operation.

Just a thought.
