Thanks Frank!! The boats up at Wanchese ready for some Tuna!!!
There are a few ways to do what you want and both work. If you are chunking I would do straight JB with a spliced loop. Then add a 50ft Flouro windon and tie right to the end no swivel is needed for chunking. You could go with a topshot but that would be up to you. It is easier to change the windon on the water than to splice in a new topshot.
For trolling we use straight 130# JB and splice a loop. Then we use a small 80-100lb barrel swivel with a catspaw then we add a 30-50 ft windon. We crimp our lure hook etc to the end of the windon. I don't use a snap swivel unless I am running a daisychain or spreader bar. The small barrel swivels ( NOT WINDON SWIVELS) will do a few things. First remember that a windon is just that it is made so you can wind the fish right to the gaff with minimal leader handling. Second a windon is easier to change out on the water than a topshot. The small 80-100lb barrel swivel
( The 130# swivel might be to large for many guides. The Basspro brand 100 xx strong are the heat for this application.)between the mainline and the windon will eliminate any line twist if your bait starts to spin from being hit or you get grass on it. The small swivels will not damage your guides like the stiff windon swivels. And of course you can windon these small swivels onto the reel. We have never had these small swivels break. Here is a pic of the connection we use......Mark
The mainline can be mono with a short bimini or JB with a spliced loop.
