Default Sinker Slides

Does anyone use these sinker slides? I just bought some but have not used them yet, how do you rig them?
Is this the corect way? If so, how long of a leader?

I only use Fish Finder Rig ( that's what it's called ) for surffishing with 10 foot & bigger rods.
Long shock leader ( 40 to 60# mono leader ) tied between the main fishing line & the swivel.
Lenght at least 3 wraps around the reel, plus the rod lenght, with a bead at the top & bottom to protect the knots.
Also throw away that black plastic slide & replace with a 70# barrel swivel instead.

In Hatteras or any other big surf beach, where you need at least 8oz. of weight & bait. When you load up the rod to cast with 8 & bait, to prevent break offs - is the reason for the long shock leader & replacing the black slider.

Hope this helps.................ICM

That's a real common rig here in the northeast for stripers and also for fluke. Use it just like you have it shown in the illustration. You can omit the bead if the swivel is big enough. The advantage is that the fish doesn't feel the weight of the sinker when it picks up the bait, and the angler doesn't feel the weight of the sinker on the strike. I'm talking about fishing from a boat here.

capt. daddy has it right on. The length of leader varies depending on the targeted species, the conditions and personal preferences. I have caught more striped bass fishing that way the just about any other. (when bait fishing - trolling with wire is a different story - and possibly my least favorite method of fishing) Of course this was I lived in the Northeast. I bet they would work down here as well. May have to give it a try for some snapper/grouper.

Yes, Capt. Daddy is 100% correct. Also, the black slide is for mono line. Purchase green slides for braided line. Braid will eventually cut into the black slide and you'll lose a sinker.

Isn't it amazing how similar, ( Fluke or Flounder? ) but yet different ways we all rig.
From my boat I preferr a Carolina Rig, using different sized egg sinkers that slide on the line - less hardware to lose when getting hung up. Like the idea that a CR also rolls around with the current moving the bait.

For Grouper no hardware other then a hook & bank sinker. Chicken Rig might be what's called. Just 3 loops in the leader - top - middle for hook - bottom larger enough to slide around a sinker.
Or a Knocker Rig large egg sinker that slides all the way to the hook eye.

They now make a slider that has a slot down the side for attaching to the line without retieng.

Put everything away & start jigging, either a baited Bucktail or Diamond / Butterfly Jigs, way more fun & save the Fish Finder for the surf...........ICM

up here its the yellow slide for braided line. and if its an easy enough current, like under 2 ozs we use rubber core to stay off the bottom when clam bellying bass. either three way or fishfinder if i want the bait within a foot of the bottom. for fluke, we dont use these too much anymore, unless skates arent an issue, which is never.

Thanks to all for the info, I use the fish finder rig with sliding egg sinkers when fishing from shore, which is not to often. I wanted to try these sliders for fishing on bottom in the river. I have lots of bank sinkers that were given to me from someone that use to own a bait shop, and that is why I wanted to try these. He gave me enough to fill a 5 gal. bucket of different size bank sinkers. You can't beat a deal like that I am going to try them this weekend for reds, Drum, whiting, and any other thing that will bite. I wll give a report on how they worked for me. Thanks for the replys.

I took some family members in shore and off shore today, used the new sinker sliders. They worked really good offshore, we caught some snapper, seabass, and sharks. only fish caught that was photo worthy was 1 my grandson caught.

Looks like you got the hang of the "fish finder" rig! Nice catch.

Olde Salt Tackle has the new heavier fish finder rigs made for braid. The ones pictured have been the old stand-by. The newer rigs are much heavier made of a harder plastic. The loop is also heavier and looks like it will hold up much better especially when tieind a dropper loop on it. They are in New York and have a site but I dont have it handy.
