 Norfolk Canyon Report!!!!!! 1/28
Left out of Rudee inlet at about 2 am with cantgetenough and a couple other young and dumb but looking for pullage buddies of mine. Dropped lines in around the tip of the canyon pulling mostly all big meat with two on planers just like we learned while we were down in Morehead. Well it doesnt take long as all of you know there were sharks and FA everywhere. We rigged a spoon on a piece of 300# moimoi with a 28 oz. inline weight and a 20' 3/8" rope. We were handlining those suckers all day long and got the tuna tubes full then we briddled up two and sent them out with the rest of the spread. So the spread consisted of 2 horse ballyhoo's down deep and wwwwtf back both with joe schmo pink and blue skirts in front of them, two 10# fa's briddled up and swimming pretty back there somewhere and then we had a couple skipping ballyhoo's on the surface for some yellowfin which proved to be a great idea. We trolled for about 45 minutes before we get about a 60# yellowfin on a top bait then started our pick. We were trolling along and we notice one of the FA's is swimming at the boat. WTF? Crank up slack on the 70 and there she is, about 750# of big blue! We all start screaming, where is my pitch bait? Why do I want to throw a tld 25 on the pig? I dont know, better idea get the fish to eat the one its after, I pick the rod up and somehow get the Albacore to stop for a second and its on like white on rice! I get Rudy strapped in and we are in battle. Get the other lines cranked in but leave the two drifters on the riggers. As we are fighting, video taping all of it and Im tellin all of you. This is gonna be one hell of a video for THT! Hell MTV is even gonna want a copy of this! Any ways the drifter baits both get crushed! So now we are hooked up to 12' of raging furry that god only knows what this fish is gonna do one second from another. Im tellin you this was one pissed off Blue! And we now have two stud Bluefin hooked up! Well we get the first bluefin to the boat, cold steel to the head, lift? oh hell no swing another hook and a rope around the tail and through the transom door she comes. One down and two to go. Next I finall get leader on the big girl, oh how sweet it is! A brief struggle and im billing her big ass everyone gets pictures our buddy Johnathon Wayne even gets his picture, he had to pass the rod off for a second because he was still fighting his tuna. Then I finally let her swim on. Alive and kickin and still light up like a christmas tree! About 30 more minutes after 2 hours and 13 minute I get a flyer stuck in the pig. Now im telling you, I roped a tuna or two down in Morehead, but this one here dwarfed any of them by twice the size. Im talkin 120" fish and I just sank a 10" flying gaff right through its big ass eye. Quick as we could Rudy threw the poon and met its mark and we both struggled to get the fish back up and rope it off. then it happened, good as clock work, the rope went over and the sound everyone heard...the rope tightened, this big one wasnt getting away today boys! It took all four of us and backing down hard to get the wash coming through the transom door but she finally slid in. High fives, hugs, pictures, we were movie stars I tell ya! And the best part, both bluefins ate seawitches on 50 wides trolled for yellowfin. HOT DOG! We were pushing close to a ton with both bluefins in the boat, fish boxes aint gonna do chit for that and 5 50-60# yellowfins and the official first blue marlin release on video for Virginia! I have to say it, we came home, all sore, worn out, beaten up and tired. Both big fish are in my walk in refrigerator truck I bought for big tuna and heading to Hatteras to get shipped off. Due to commercial license neither fish will be eligeble for records or even citations. bummer but oh well! Anyways, I just want to say thanks to my crew, yall did a first class job with everything! And secondly I would like to apologize for wasting everyones time that read this bull shit report. I did not fish the canyon today, I did infact fish Bobs fishing Hole with Rudy "cantgetenough" and we wore the crappies as$es out!
