Default Key West Guide

Looking to do a little Tarpon fishing this month in Key West. I live in West Palm and do alot of business down there and want to extend my normal "business" trip to include some fishing. I do a ton of offshore stuff so I have zero desire to pay someone to do what I do 500 hrs a year here but have never done any Tarpon fishing. Is it a good time and if so can you recoment a guide. I will only have a half day so want someone who prepares well and doesnt spend 3 hrs catching bait, 1 hr running and 1 hr fishing if you know what I mean. I trust THT so any help would be great!

Pat Bracher is the best down there. fishovertime.com. January is a tough month to tarpon fish in the keys according to my conversations with Pat, they are there, but you really need a warm day to get them good. I fished with him last April, and had a blast, so good luck.

Your best bet is to book a guide through a local tackle shop.

Call the Saltwater Angler in KW and tell them what you're looking for.

In January, a few years back, I fished with Capt. Tim Carlile out of Sugarloaf. We released 2 permit and 2 bonefish, never saw a tarpon.
