Default Punta Gorda

I will be going down to punta gorda some time in January and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to fish for drum, trout, snook, tarpon etc. . will not have any access to a boat.

Thanks,
Marc

There are several great snook bridges in PGI that are just fair during daytime, but can be awesome for big snook at night on the outgoing tide using live ladyfish or mullet for bait. I'm talking 20 - 30 lb snook and you will need a minimum of 20 lb tackle to keep them away from the bridge pilings (ie. stiff rod and strong drag on reel). Otherwise, advice on the best fishing area on what is biting where at the time you will be there will come from "Fishin' Frank's Bait and Tackle." Fishin' Franks is located about 1/2 mile north of the US 41 bridge on the west side of the hwy, corner of US 41 and I can't remember the intersecting street but it is a major intersection/stoplight - it's in a funky little building on the NW corner of the intersection. Street address 44250 Tamiami Trail, Charlotte Harbor 33980, tel 941-625-3888. Go in to the store rather than call and you will get much better advice - and take a local map with you so they can mark it up.

Yes I or you can take a ride to Port Charlotte Beach and give it a try in the early morning as the sun is coming up. But best bet for Redfish is to go out in a boat. Alot of the bridges in PGI have no trespassing signs around them. Just beware of that.
