Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
Marlin on!
We are having an incredible Marlin bite here out if Los Suenos Marina.,over the last week and a half. The Hooked on Costa Rica boats have had banner days with several of our boats cacthing and releasing between 6-9 Marlin in a day, with many more hook ups. Blue's have been the dominant catch with some nice striped and blacks in the mix.
Some monster Sailfish and Mahi's are being caught consistently by all of our boats as well as a lot of Yellowfin Tuna. It looks like it's going to be a great season. For those planning or thinking about enjoying the ultimate fishing vacation here in the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica, Los Suenos-Jaco Beach, please know that our top producing boats and accomodations are filling up quickly. It is wise to contact us soon and lock in your package and reservation for January through April. hookedoncostarica@gmail.com
Great bites to all!

RE: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
I've got to call BS on this report. I was in Costa Rica last week over Thanksgiving and fished two days out of beautiful Los suenos. In two long days of fishing with most of the fleet around, we managed 3 small football sized YF and one decent Dorado. Spotted 4 sails sunning but were not interested in biting. The only action we heard on the radio was one boat released two stripeys early last friday. As far as we could determine most boats did not do any better than we did. 6-9 Blues would have had everyone buzzing.

I was also their durring Thanksgiving. Fished 2 days and we picked up a couple of sails and a small blue. The private boats were into a hot marlin bite on the 24th but it was about 20 miles north of us. Maybe the fish have moved a little closer. I highly recomend the Miss Behavin as a charter boat out of the marina. My 8 year old son caught his first billfish and had the time of his life.

Johnboy. I'm glad you had a chance to fish Los Suenos and enjoy the area, however I am sorry to hear you had a slow 2 days. Please first let me say that we have been in the business too long to post "BS" fishing reports so your above call would be 100% incorrect.
As most traveling anglers know, the slowest fishing of the year in this region is traditionally from August through Mid - December. Most folks traveling here to fish during these times either know that already, or should be told that when they request to book during those times. We have a lot of clients that can only book during these months and we tell them up front that the fishing may be slow.
Now, as most seasoned anglers know, the fishing can change day-to day and week to week as it always has and always will. The fact that the few days you were here and the overall bite was slow, certainly does not mean that it could'nt get better shortly after you leaft, which was apparently the case. My report in this thread is completely accurate and there was really no reason other than your own personal dissapointment in your luck, to question it or refer to it as BS.
As many of us know, the bite can be hot one day and dead the next. This has been a stellar week on Marlin being caught by both our charter boats as well as private boats. No BS. Is it an unusally strong bite early in the year? YES. but we are certainly not complaining. How long it will last we do not know either. I suggest you try again down here another time, when the season is more in your favor.

Yes they were and yes, the fish have moved a little. Both the charter boats and private boats have been doing very well this week on Marlin. Miss Behavin is one of our top producing smaller boats in the Hooked On Costa Rica fleet as is Fandango. We place most of our smaller parties on Miss Behavin or Fandango as they are the best boats for parties of 2-3. Please also know for those interested in booking her or Fandango, we offer them both for $50.00 a day LESS than if you booked the boat on your own or through some booking agency.
Re: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
I have to say the format that you use for your report is pretty vague and it does make me think that it is BS. When you post this info why don't you say exactly how many boats fished each day, how many bites of each species and how many released that way we could get a true idea of what is going on.
For example I could tell you that I was in Australia 2 weeks ago and the group I was with caught 17 Black marlin, 2 above 900 lbs and 1 above 1,000 pounds. Which sounds like the bite of the century but then if I tell you it was 5 days of fishing and the totals are for 3 boats it still sounds good but not but not the bite of the century.

Hookedon
We fished on Mis'behavin last Thursday and Friday. I would also recommend this boat and crew. They worked hard all day but we never heard of a hot bite going on while we were there. I understand that on Wed. the Mis'behavin was the hot boat with two sails and a small blue but that was the best we heard of.
Getting on the plane on Sunday, we ran into the owner of a boat that was fishing north of us. He also fished two days with no better results. We all agreed that " Fishing is Fishing not necessarily catching"

RE: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
no need to call BS on this one, maybe sweetening the story some,(sales guys gotta talk up their product) but not complete BS. if you were lucky enough to be on a boat that caught a marlin, it was hot, but you could have just as easily been on a boat that didn't catch a thing.
we have been catching marlin throughout the central and southern zones as we do EVERY november and we will continue for another few weeks. are there mad bites going on on every boat fishing? no. last week your chances were probably better of catching a marlin than a sail.
and yes, the sails are showing up...are we slaying them? no. the next few weeks should bring in more hungry fish. the next few months SHOULD just get better and better.
the snapper bitehowever, HAS been hot if you are on a boat that knows how to catch them...
RE: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
My wife and I fished out of Los Suenos the week before T-giving. We split a charter with a couple of great guys from Ft. Myers. Lines were not in the water more than 10 minutes before my wife was hooked up with a 350 lb. blue. I got a great video of it charging the boat and almost ending up in the cockpit. It sort of set the bar kind of high though. We picked up another 70 lb. sail and then one more sail that probably went close to 100 lbs. We also hooked 2 other blues before the end of the day - both of them were in the 200 - 250 range.
I have to admit though, that I was pretty impressed with 3 shots at blue marlin in just one day of fishing.

As I was saying, many boats out of Los Suenos had great days this last week and a half on Marlin. Many of them happened to be boats in our fleet. Not every boat had the same luck, and I would certainly never insinuate such. Please let me restate that I have more expereince in this business than most others anywhere in this region, country and on the many online Forum boards. I have fished the world over and accomplished myself through hard work and dedication to this industry as a successful leader in the industry.
I have no reason nor do I beleive in Sugar Coating reports in the name of selling fishing trips. Fishing will always be fishing. One day your'e the hero, the next day your the zero. Every Captain knows that. If the fishing is slow and picky, I am the first to say so. The bite changes daily and every expereinced angler and Captain knows that as well. Some days the boat you are on is hot and others it's not. Thats just how it goes. Irregardless, you can always contact me for good information on fishing in the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica, Los Suenos-Jaco.
Re: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
I caught my first sail out of Los Suenos this summer, as did my dad, and my brother in our first trip. I don't doubt its going off in Costa Rica, now if only I could get over there...

I went last April and we fished on the Sailfish. We caught 5 sails, 4 marlin and 3 dolphin / dorado which were big enough to feed 6 hungry guys plus the cabby and the crew of the boat. Costa Rica fishing is something else.
Re: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
I call BS also on that report. I just got back 2 days ago. We raised 1 marlin and 3 sails in two days. The near shore is dead and the offshore is boarder line. We did get in some tuna chasing the dolphin, 3 each day. Their was allot of boats just sitting their in the marina.
Costa Rica has some nice places their but in my opinion it is a little over rated. Maybe we just missed the right time to go or the wrong boat. I believe that I'll stay in Mississippi and Louisiana it is allot easer to get to.
Also for the guy that had to check his reels in, I also did they would not let me take them on the plane. The other 3 guys was able to carry them on, go figure.
Re: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
I was in Costa Rica at Crocodile Bay near Puerto Jimeniz on the Osa Peninsula the week before Thanksgiving and it was very good for this time of year. Crocodile Bay is much farther south than Los Suenos so I believe the reports. Most boats were raising up to 10-12 sails a day and at least a marlin or two. Lots of dorado and football size YTs. Our first day we hooked up six including a double and landed three. While we were there the inshore was slow since the rainy season was just ending but there were no complaints from offshore anglers.

Silver Bullet, please take the time to read my last post whearas I will once again explain that I have no reason to post a BS report. It is what it is, and I am sorry YOUR boat was not hot on the bite or the bite was off on the days you fished. It Happens and thats part of fishing. The Marlin bite I reported on was taking place 30-40 plus miles out, and YES, several of our boats as well as quite a few others had an incredible week and thats no BS.
Also I am certain you knew before you arrived, this is NOT our peak fishing season, so please don't judge the fishing here overall by only your experience. The peak fishing times here offshore are traditionally January through Middle of May. Perhaps you might give it another try as well. I'd be glad to assist you in getting on the right boat at the right time. It's what I have done best for over 20 years! Again, sorry you weren't pleased with your particular experience, and perhaps we can help you enjoy a better one someday.

You tried to place a free ad on a consumer board that was bs, and have been nicely called a liar by people who were there and know better.
Better change you handle as no amount of back peddling will save your credability now.
Re: Los Suenos Costa Rica Fishing Report HOT Marlin bite in ON!
Bullshipper:
There was no Bullship about the report, and if you were on one of the many boats that fished 30-40 miles out plus, you too would have enjoyed the great Marlin bite that took place that week.
Perhaps those that you claim to "know better" will know better as to who to book their trips with next time. Backpeddle???? Please.... I have been in this business too long to tell fish stories. I'm the first one to tell our clients when the bit is hot and when it's not.
Our company certainly would not be enjoying the success it does if we counted on false fishing reports to reel in clients. Here's the facts .....again. Every boat that leaves the dock to fish does not have a great day every day! It's called fishing for a reason. What makes the difference and increases your odds of having a better day than many other boats is the capability of your boat, the knowledge of your Captain and Crew, and the abilty to cover more territory as needed to travel to where the fish happen to be or to try and find more of them.
I dont know what boats these folks were on that did not have the same luck as many of our boats did, as well as many of the private boats, however just because THEY didnt do as well, certainly doen't mean nobody elese did.
SO...based on the facts and how many boats faired the last week and a 1/2 ..the Hull Truth here that calling my report BS without being here, being at the Marina every day, or fishing on one of the many boats that hammered the Marlin last week, is actually a BS call in itself.
