Default Rod suggestions for new Shimano TLD 15LD?

Just picked up a new Shimano TLD 15 lever drag reel. Looking for suggestions for a rod to match it up with. I love the reel and was hoping to use it as a jigging reel for stripers, bottom fishing, and possible light trolling. I'm thinking something like a 5'6" 20-40# with no roller guides (to help casting). I have a Penn GLS 25 that is set up similiarly to this and it is great. Does this sound like a good plan? Suggestions on rod brands, dealer, etc.? Just to make it more difficult - I'm not thinking about spending over $100. Thanks for any suggestions - Glen

You could look at the Penn Power Stick line. They are relatively heavy in weight but have great power and are very well built. I don't think these rods are offered below 6'6", but if you are planning to cast with it, 5'6" will be too short anyway.

I use a Penn Power Pro 7' rod with my TLD 15's, line weight 15 to 40lbs. It's a good match up.

I use ugly sticks model # USCB1166MH 6'6" 20-50 lb. Nice action and I use them for blues stripers, bonita, and false albacore. They have held up well over the years. These are supposed to be custom made by Ugly stick I purchase them through Harlee Rod in Jersey City. Its a great trolling set up. I realize it goes 20 to 50 but the lighter tip is a nice touch.

Beaufort and Wreckman, ? Are these rods roller tips or no? And what kind of line are you using? Thanks - Glen

These are not roller tips. I use mamoi diamond 30 lb yellow line. and top it off with say 15 yards of 30 lb clear. I do alot of inshore trolling with this setup and the yelow line makes it easier for my eyes to see. Harlee rod has a web site so you could call them to see if they are in stock. These were under $100.00.

I would look at sea striker billfisher rods, less than a hundred dollars but very durable, I would not suggest bottom fishing with 15s, you will wear your washers out.

You think so? Generally the bottom fishing I do is in 60' or less.
