Default Cold weather gear?

What do you guys wear for fishing in colder temps? I'm looking for a warm jacket, gloves, hat, socks, etc.

The Aquaskinz jackets look nice, but more geared for surf fishing.

And I checked out the Sealskinz and Glacier gloves. Both look nice.

Any feedback?

Thanks guys!

Dom

I wear a Mustang floatation coat. It really is quite comfortable and very warm. I got the one that goes down to about my belt. They make one that goes to your thighs but that seemed too long. That coat, a wool cap, and if it's really cold I put on my wool pants! The reason I like the coat is because if you go overboard with lots of clothes on you get very heavy very quickly. I'm speaking from experience. It can be real hard to keep you head above water and I was a competitive swimmer.

I bought an inexpensive snow ski bib and it works great under my foul weather gear.

A friend wears boots he loves. They are either Nuk or Muk, I'm not sure. For many years we duck hunted LIS in Jan and Feb. There are 2 keys. Keep the wind out and stay dry. And remember, the majority of the body's heat is lost from the head, hands and feet. And alcohol and cigarettes make you colder. We wore multiple lightweight layers of quality cold weather undergarments and socks. Quality foul weather gear keeps the wind out. Your hands will be OK if you keep them dry. (We were putting decoys in the water and chipping ice off them.) KEEP YOUR HEAD WARM! We learned that in sub 20 degree weather you had to eat constantly. We brought thermos bottles of soup, beef stew, hot chocolate etc and cookies etc to snack on. There were times when the salt spray froze on us but we still were warm.

If you really want to keep warm buy a mustang (survival) jump suit. Not the one you jump overboard with I belive it's called a "work" suit or pfd. I wear just a long sleeve t shirt and jeans underneath. Have yet to be cold even in January with a brisk wind. Hands and feet might get a little frosty, but NEVER been cold with my suit on. Has neoprene and velcro around the wrists and ankles that cinch up to keep body heat in. Also has an inflatable life vest that you could inflate if you did go over. This is NOT a 100% survival suit. To keep your feet warm find a pair of insulated rubber boots with a -80 F rating. Now lets go fishing! Oh yea, wool hat and neoprenne gloves with liners help. Good Luck!

Default RE: Cold weather gear?

well, i go several different routes.

late spring/early fall i use insulated carhart bibs and a float coat

once e start getting frost and the water is 60 or less, i keep my mustang suit on the boat, I got mine off ebay for $125, new in the box, still sealed in the bag.

Like the other guy said, your hands and feet may get chilled, but you'll be smokin' on the inside.

i buy the thin brown jersey gloves in bulk(harbor freight tools), and go thru several pair each trip. add a wool cap and your head will by toasty.

for my feet, ive got a pair of bass pro/ red head specials, nice lug sole, water proof and insulated like nobody bussiness. i havent got cold feet in a few years when I use these boots, plus they were only like $50. now if only I could think of the name...
