Default Yellowtail fishing

I will be heading back down to the Sea of Cortez in a few days and am looking for info on catching yellowtail. Never fished for them other than bottom fishing using squid with fair success. Would like to troll.

ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: Yellowtail fishing

The top guys will troll small live mullets on wire line or planers to get them deep on the west side of San Nicolas, or use dropper loops with live sardines on the south end where the pangueros hang out every day.

The coop guys at the bridge close to marine mart will sell you sardines if you make arrangements the night before. Mullets can be caught or bought around the main docks in the main marina before you go out- ataraya nets.

If the weather is rough, you can try jigging-yo/yo closer in at Tortilla Pt as you turn the outer south corner to go into the bay that has the northern marina or try trolling. Salas 6x in scrambled egg colors. If you would rather troll try:

Rebel Fastracs 5.5" black and silver (Lurenet)

or plastic nosed 14 cm rapala magnums in green mackeral or orange and pearl in the same places.

But again, if you can catch or buy live bait, that will nail them.
