Check out the speed of this crossing: (Excerpt from local Bermuda fishing report)
Super-fast vising boat "Sea Toy" left Bermuda last week and crossed all the way over to Pirates Cove (North Carolina) at speeds ranging from 38-42 knots the whole way. Even though Pirates Cove is by no means the closest point to Bermuda, "Sea Toy" made the crossing in a record time. Capt. Bull Tolson and team left Bermuda at 6:00 am and arrived in Pirates Cove in time for a late dinner - I understand the official time was 15 hours and 8 minutes - Wow !!
Bull is only the captain of the boat and not the owner of the boat. The owner is from New Jersey. Last year when he went over he had his fuel sponsored by Spencer Yachts and Gregory Poole. I am not sure if that is the case this year, but that would be my guess. That boat cruises at 38.5 knots so he really wasn't pushing it.
I believe the trip is a little over 600 statute miles. The boat holds 1750 gallons of fuel in its standard configuration, many boats carry extra fuel for the Bermuda run in barrels on deck. He had to be burning 100+ gal/hr at that speed, so I would assume that he had extra fuel on board. It would be nice to hear the full story of the crossing from the captain. The weather must have perfect all the way to maintain that pace.
I was amberjack fishing the south tower out of Virginia Beach on Saturday when I'm pretty sure I saw that new orange 64 Jarret Bay ( http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...157872&start=1 ) steaming to the NE at a pretty good pace.
He was about a mile or two off but I'm positive it was an orange boat!
I'm guessing it was heading to Ocean City for the open.
Saw the boat yesterday in the White MarlinOpen. Last Year on a rough day we were fishing in a 33t Contnder and that boat came by us pretty past with out even being effected by the seas...Pretty Awesome!!!
Bull said that the seas were calm all the way back. They did use fuel bladders as well. I think that they left at 6 am and were tied up in Pirates Cove at 9. They were a week late getting over there because they hit bottom on the way out of Oregon-Inlet and had to take it to Wanchese to get fixed. If any of you get a chance to fish with Bull, do it. He and his mate DJ are first class. They got second in the release division of the Big Rock this year.
Seatoy and the Pelican are always at the top in Billfishing. We see them out on the water all the time. Nothing like cruising back in in a CC and watching one of these boats cruise right on by. Great captains ......Mark
