Dude,
First of all you don't know where is local for me!,
Second, I shop at all of the above and then some, like El Capitan, B&F etc etc
And still no answer.....
Late 2007. The Bass Pro website says late 2006, but clearly this is wrong.
Captain Harry's is a good place, but it is downtown. Too far for me. River Marine is also pretty far from where I am. Last time I went to River Marine the West Miami Police gave me a ticket on SW 8 ST. Not River Marine's fault but getting to and from there while AVOIDING the festering rat hole sewer that is West Miami is a PITA. On the plus side Tobacco Road is close to River Marine. Beer and a Death Burger. Sounds good to me!
El Capitan is not too far away. But parking can (and often does) suck. It is a good store however. Decent prices and great selection. I can forgive the parking situation. I go there when I need stuff, if I can not wait for the next boat show / marine flea market.
Crook and Crook is a good name for that place. They always seem to be higher than anyone else. But they are on the way to the Crandon boat ramp and I say convenience gets you bonus points! But now that I know I can get my shrimp from Jimbo's on Virginia Key I may just start going there. Jimbo is a cool old dude and I like his place. Lots of hippies though. When I go there I hand out bars of soap. Avoid the abandoned school bus at Jimbos unless you want to get stoned. And get ticks. I think hippies live in that thing. I have to avoid the bus because of this thing called "a job". They can inspect my pee on demand.
There is a place WAY down in Florida City that I go to when I am going to Flamingo or using the Homestead boat ramp for whatever crazy reason. But this is not very often. It is a good tackle shop with frisky live bait.
The Bass Pro at the Dolphin Mall will be easier for me to get to than any of the above. So I will probably go there when I need stuff. The sales they have are hard to beat.
The problem is that it is at the Dolphin Mall. Blah. The traffic around that place can be pretty horrible. But not as horrible as the crap hole that is West Miami.

Thanks man, I send them a mail to find out. For me it is simple, I fly in, let the family hit the mall and check out what I need without having to hurry. So Dolphin would be perfect.
Ah yes. The famous Dolphin Mall airport shuttle bus. Catch it on the second level (departure level).
Do you fly in on your way to somewhere else, or is Miami the destination? MIA has mostly connections to the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Europe. I can not see why any domestic connections would stop in Miami unless you are flying back from an international location.
If you fly into FLL there is a Bass Pro near the airport. But FLL sucks. They lack the number of runways that MIA has. So you get A LOT of ground delays there. And I think MIA has a better design. Only one terminal building with a whole lot of concourses and gates. FLL has smaller, not always under the same roof concourses.
I look for the Miami Bass Pro to open sometime in September / October. Maybe sooner. For sure they will have it open before Thanksgiving! Or else they may loose out on some of that Christmas Green. Opening in September / October allows them to have a grand opening event (and sales) PLUS being able to ca$h in on the day after Thanksgiving shopping blitz. It is just smart marketing to open before November.

If you think C&C is high, go down a few blocks to West Marine - You need to visit the local loan man before setting foot in there! MIA is a major hub for American Airlines, that's why domestics fly there. I personally don't fly any US carriers, I rather fly in newer jets with better service and that eliminates all US carriers.
I have very little choice, currently AA is the only one with direct flights into Miami, as a matter a fact I'll be there in 3 weeks. I am working on my list!
I did not include West Marine because their prices are way out of line. But if you catch them having a closeout sale the deals are great.
It is kind of hard to fly anywhere in the USA without using a domestic carrier. It is illegal for a foreign carrier to fly a domestic route in the USA. If you want to get from MIA to LAX you can not fly Iberia or Taca or Lufthansa.
AA is buying a bunch of 777s and 787s by the way.
AA has connections to almost everywhere in the Caribbean, Central America, and South America from MIA. So if you want to go to Aruba chances are you will have to take AA. Unless you want to fly Cayman Air or Air Jamaica and then connect to Caribbean Air (formerly BWIA) or something.
Blues - I do not think the Bass Pro will be open in three weeks. But you CAN jump the tri rail (there is an airport shuttle bus) and take that to the Bass Pro in Broward. The Bass Pro is right at one of the stations. You will need to walk a bit, but not too bad. About a mile there and back. Or less.

No, I'll have a car and a whole week so I'll get arround. I assume you are talking about the one near the IGFA H.o.F? I might want to check out the H.O.F anyway.
Yes. The Broward Bass Pro is right next to the IGFA thing. Never been in there. I live in Dade and try to limit my trips to Broward. The traffic just kills me. It is the worst.

It's about time AA bought some newer aircraft, but they're still behind times with in-flight service. My buddy George flew on Alaska Airlines from Anchorage to Miami, except it was code-shared flight with American. The Alaska part was excellent, the AA part was horrible when they lost his luggage. While you're statement is partially correct, most foreign carriers have code-sharing flights with AA, UA, DL, NW approved by FAA for continuity of service - they still have a lot to learn about customer service.
When I'm in Miami (like now) I try to avoid shopping at the big box stores, even when I deliver goods to them. I want to support local dealers, because I see the havoc and grief first hand when they are forced out of business. Boater's World in Miami has better prices on tackle than Crook (hate that name), West or even Harrys.
Lazy_Iguana - Finally someone that sounds like they have been in Miami as long as I have. It's quite scary as I could not have said it any better. You must be my brother from another Mother!
Yea. Like I said, there are worse fates. But the cost of living here is pretty high, while the average wage is kind of low. House prices are insane, rent prices are unreal, property tax, property insurance, auto insurance, and electricity for the AC - it all adds up.
The warm water and excellent boating around here means nothing if you are house poor.
