Default aftco rollers and wire line

I just got a couple of custom made rods as a gift for wire line trolling for stripers. I tried using them for the first time the other day. It seems that when letting out the wire the line keeps getting pinched in the roller tip, between the roller itself and the bracket holding it on. Anybody have this problem or know a cure? Ithought the the roller gude tip was amust for wire line jigging, Thanks guys.

Default RE: aftco rollers and wire line

That's unusual for Aftco roller tips; they usually have pretty tight tolerances. You might try tightening the screws that hold the rollers in the frames and see if they're too loose. The problem with regular rollers is that wire line will groove both the frames and rollers over time. Aftco makes special roller tips for wire line use; they have an arm that's designed to keep the line on the roller and off of the frame. They're expensive, but you really should consider having these installed if you're using wire. Alternatively, you could use a carbide or SIC tip if you can live without the roller.

No reason for all rollers on a wire rod................Carbide guides with a swivel roller tip is preferred. The swivel roller tip will never foul..........
