Default Marathon/ Bahia Honda fishing

Im goin down next weekend and i will probably go out on a charter or two but other than that i have no idea what to do to catch fish down there. I'll be doin primarily inshore fishing, no more then 5 to 10 miles out and was wondering if anyone had advice of what to look for and how to fish it.

PS: I'd love to get a tarpon... When do they run?

The Keys are pretty much at their peak in late May/early June. The tarpon run is definitely on -- especially around the brigdges. Offshore, the dolphin bite should be strong as well.

If you haven't arranged for a charter for Memorial Day weekend yet, you might be limited in your choices. My best recommendation is to go the the Florida Sportsman website (this forum doens't allow a link for some reason) and go their "Forums" link at the top of the home page. There is are two separate forums on the Keys -- lots of info there. If you can get the current issue of Florida Sportsman Magazine, buy it. Lots of good info in the pages as well as a regional fishing wrap up in the back 1/4 of the issue.

My recommendation is that as soon as you get there, visit a local tackle shop (not BPS/Worldwide Angler) and pick up a local chart, some recommended tackle and then ask for advice. Hawks Channel is a great near shore location for snapper, grouper, and sharks.

Tightlines,

PB

Good infor there. The bridge fishing (from a boat) should be going off then. If the wind isn't too bad, I'd hire a flats guide and fish the flats but if the bite is slow, you can run around and drift crabs off the beach or under the bridges. B-mail me if you need a couple of names of flats guides.
