Venice Sunday 5/6/07 - The Hull Truth

Made it down to Venice early Sunday morning despite the free flowing Margaritas from Sat. night. Jumped in my friends Regulator and hit the same areas as last week with similar results. Plenty Snapper, Scamps and an AJ. Headed out from there and bait was hard to come by. We found a large grass patch and although there were no hardtails we picked up 5 or 6 small chicken dolphin. Arrived at the rig to find no surface action at all. Put baits out and we had our first fish on in @ 10 minutes. Put that Tuna in the boat and before I could get the next bait all the way out it was Fish ON! Another small YF @ 45lbs hit the ice. Lost one more fish and our other baits got eaten by toothy critters. Decided to see if any Hooters were around so we put out two shake baits and first wrap around the rig we picked up a weehoo and the scattered grass put an end to the trolling. We then tried chumming but it soon became a shark party.

How is it that you manage to fish every weekend? Nice results!! I'm sure I'll see you down there eventually, come say hi if you see the Intrepid

Nice haul! Man wish we could have got a couple of grouper.................I had visions of baked grouper at the house on Sunday.............next time! Do you need live bait to catch the scamps, dead bait or jigs?

Most of the Scamps came from butterfly type jigs in the pink and silver variety. They were not on the bottom either. I caught one while trying to lure some big Mangroves out of the rig. We were in blue water and I freelined a piece of pogie down into the rig and the Mangroves would not take it but a Scamp did.

No kids (yet) and a very understanding wife. She understands that if I don't go fishing regularly I will be miserable to be around.

I will keep an eye out for the Intrepid. I make a lot of suicide trips (towing boat down, fishing, and towing boat back in one day) so I don't spend a lot of time at the marinas.
