Montery Salmon Fishing

The sport Salmon season opened April first to slow action. It's picked up recently, with a lot of large early season fish. We fished yesterday at the southern tip of Monterey Bay (Pt. Pinos), trolling white hoochies and anchovies in "FBR" rigs off downriggers. Total score 7 fish for four anglers, biggest 31 lbs, two others over 25. Lots of doubles (we had two) and other 30lb plus fish were caught, and the average for the fleet was probably around 20. That's about twice the normal size of April fish- if these fish add 5 to 7 lbs over the spring and summer like they usually do we could be in for an epic season.
