Default Recommend charter in Destin, FL?

Hello folks. Been a while since I've been on this forum. I'm headed to Destin, FL for two weeks in March and would like to hear about any reliable charters. Not too picky about what I'm catching. I'm from the Great Lakes region so anything bigger than a 5 lb. walleye is pretty impressive to me. Would like to avoid sharks if possible.

Down at the main dock there are tons of charters and charter offices. If you don't have enough people for a charter you can frequently throw in with other in the same situation and get on a boat. We wen out on "Sunrise" a few years ago for an 8 hour and did really well. the Mate was outstanding.

Try this site to a fishing tackle dealer in Destin. They have a link to a large list of charter boats.

Thanks folks. I'll check out Half Hitch. Also, I thought I might relax with some surf-fishing. Is there anywhere you can rent gear? Don't have much use for a surf rod in Toronto so I'd rather not buy something.

I know a few Captains there. Try the "First Light" it's a catamaran. They produce fish. That time of year you will be sight fishing cobia (ling / lemonfish). Snapper is closed until April 15th in FL state waters (out to 9nm) and April 21 in Federal waters. I believe grouper is currently closed but check when it opens (not 100% off the top of my head). They are small but there will be spanish mackerel migrating into the area in the near future.

When are you coming? I might take you with me for a expense sharing trip. That would be in Panama City about 50 miles East of Destin so you'd need a car.

I am a Capt myself and used to have my boat docked in Destin. Now it's in Panama City b/c the marina was destroyed to build condos . . .

Let me know.

Gary Jarvis, the captain and owner of the 57' "Back Down II". Chartered him 4 times and every time was great!

If you want to fish quickly on some great spots, give Jason Woodham a call. http://www.angryfishcharters.com/bio.html I've fished with him all my life. Kelly Windes on the Sunrise would be a top choice as well.
