Default Headed to the Keys

I'll Be headed to the Keys on March 10 at 2am. I won't have the kind of cash that I know i want to spen down there but i'm going to make the most of it. Last year We went on the Marathon Lady and fished the Bridges and we did ok. We brought home some fish. This year i'll Have a little more to spend seeing as I signed 2 years of my life way for a bonus check. So I'm thinking of Going on the marathon lady again and may be a charter for a day or half a day and just fish the bridges the rest of the time. I Also want to go out to eat one night while i'm there. I am open to any sugestions. Any sugestion for charters or head boats please PM me.

Go to Islamorada, Bud n' Marys Marina. Everything you want is there from head boat to skiffs and offshore charters. They even have rooms there. Telephone is (305)664-2461

Four of us are heading down to the Key Largo/Islamorada area on March 21 & 22. I want to try to catch a tarpon on a topwater lure, any suggestions on what lure or technique would be appreciated. I had a hard time finding a place for the four of us to stay and finally ended up booking at a place called Bay Cove. I hope you already found a place to stay because I called about 25 place and only found 2 that could take the 4 of us during these dates.

I'm with ferret -- save the topwater for snook and speckled trout at dawn. A lot of folks don't realize that tarpon feed mostly below the water. You won't believe how many Silver Kings are caught around fishing cleaning stations at marinas down here!

Don't forget to try the the areas around bridges from the shore where they're accessible. Fresh ballyhoo are a great bait -- use 1/2 at a time. Most bait shops will have them.

Spend a few $$ at a local tackle shop on terminal tackle (leaders, hooks, lures, bait) and they'll provide you some good tips! Just make sure your tackle's up to the challenge BEFORE you get to the Keys! If not, spend some of that bonus on a new rod & reel there -- that should get you an extra good tip!

Tightlines,

BP

yeah also don't be surprised if when fishing during the day , you see 100s of tarpon and they ignore everything you throw at them

Yep, and just after closing time they'll fall for a topwater every time.

Stopped by robbie's last year and got some good pictures. My Tackle is limited to what can fit in with all of our junk. Right now I have a 2 peice spinning combo with 15lb test. and a Boat rod and real with 30lb. I might want to fish a bridge a day or two......Where is best place to get some live bait? Shrimp, Pinfish ect.?

Heading to Islamorada with two friends on the 11th for a few days. We hired a friend of a friend to take us offshore and reef fishing. Hope the bite is hot. Will post a report when I get back. Man, I can barely contain myself.
