The Accurate is a top-notch proven reel, and the Alutecnos is fairly new. Although Im partial to Alutecnos, I havnt used it (Ive only handled it, and it was beautiful!!!!).
Thanks. that is the same feedback I got from the guys at Melton. The only advantage I see with the Alutecnos is that it seems to hold about 200yds more of the same test line than the Accurate.
Ive got a guy in Mexico I know uses them for all his bottom fishing...big grouper on them says their flawless...The gorilla is also available in Gold of Silver isnt for you...just so you know.
Why would you not compare the accurate 12 to the Alutecnos 12? The accurate product is at the top of the reel food chain without a doubt. The 665 is available in different widths as well, depending on line capacity needed. With braid they will all hold more than you need.

Good advice. I will take a look at that model. I looked at the Gorilla today and while it is a nice reel I can't get comfortable with the plastic handle and the plastic stop pin for the lever drag. The Penn 16vsx may move up as it seems to be a very, very solid piece of hardware.
While I suspect that both would suit your purposes, a fair comparison is the ATD 12 (Accurate) against the Alutecnos. In that matchup, I really don't think the Alutecnos fairs too well.

And why is that?
I've actually used both and that is merely my opinion. Go play with both in a tackle shop and see what you think. If price matters, buy the Alutecnos.

First time I have heard that the Alutecnos does not hold up. Everyone that I talked to that have used these reels for years say quite the opposite. I heard of a handle problem from one Capt and Alutecnos sent him new handles for all his reels within two days at no charge. This is the only problem I have heard and it was taken care of plus great service. Enlighten us with problems you have experienced?..... Mark
I talked to Duel about their Speedy but they are only capable of about 8lbs of drag according them. While the Accurates are top notch, they don't hold enough line for what I am looking to do. We fish the Bahamas a lot and you never know what you are going to run into down there. My opinion is when you get to this level of product it comes down to "how does it feel in your hands" barring some major design flaw you hear about which is why I always interested in talking to someone whom has used them.
"they don't hold enough line for what I am looking to do"
Huh! A 665 Accurate will hold over 500 Yards (1500 feet) of 50lb spectra. The 12 will hold more than that. That is some DEEP fishing!!! I say go electric. My arm would fall off. (as huge, muscular and Manly as it is! )

I have 2 Gorillas and another on the way. I don't feel the Accurate would hold up like the Gorillas. They put out 40+ lb. of drag which is unbeatable. Go with Gorillas all the way. I have one with Mono and the other with a top of shot of braid, and man, when bottom fishing, there is NOTHING that can beat the Gorillas.
I have 11 accurate reels..five 665's; two 30's; two 50w's; and two 30 spinning reels. I have used them for several years now and have caught yellowfin up to 180lb., marlin to 450lb., wahoo, amberjack, grouper, snapper, etc. If there is a better reel, I do not want to know about it. All spooled with power pro or Jerry Brown. I baby them and service them myself...never had a problem.
a couple of months ago, i dumped my old school tuna gear. i've ordered up a set of ALL two speed accurate reels, two boss 870n's, two boss 870's, one boss 665, one ATD 6, one ATD 12, one ATD 30 and one ATD 50. they're getting laser engraved at the factory now, half are done. hope they get my name right. i'm loading them all up with blackwater spectra and topshotting them with berkeley high test and setting the drags to 50% of line weight, to a max of 50#'s at strike. i'm going to do this once in my lifetime, and it's going to be done right.
not affilliated, paying full price, etc. alan
