Random Quote: IGFA......I thought it was......I Got a Fishing Addiction
Four of us want to go tarpon fishing down in the Keys in the next couple of months. I have been fishing several times with a guide out of World Wide Sportsman in Islamorada named Chris Barron. He is a great guide but we want to do something a little different. We want to cast fish using spinning gear and maybe flyrods, we would prefer to do some top water fishing for tarpon < 50LBS. The big ones we caught with Chris were fun...for about 45 minutes then you just want to get them in the boat.
I know most guides only fish 2 to a boat and that is fine, hopefully they have a buddy that they fish with that can take the other 2 guys. We want to fish for 2 days during the week, not on a weekend.
Any recommendations for a guide that does this type of fishing?
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
Capt. Ted Christie, You can reach him through Florida Keys Outfitters in Islamorada. Excellent guide and really knows how to find the fish. He mostly fishes the flats but will adjust to your needs. Keep in mind that although the next few months can be some of the best Poon fishing of the year for laid-up fish out back you need a few warm slick calm days to make it happen.
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
If he's available, Capt. Tim Carlile out of Sugarloaf Lodge & Marina is my favorite guide down there. No doubt, he can find another good guide to fish the same days.
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
Thanks for the suggestions I'll be checking them out. Any one do much top water fishing for tarpon? I know fishing is fishing but do you have much success top water fishing for tarpon? I prefer wearing my arm out bringing in fish -vs- casting all day.
RE: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
Try Rick Killgore 305-8521131 fish-killgore.com I have fished with him twice and would go again in a heart beat. He does get a little wound up if you miss a fish. Being from up north it was interesting to go and cast net the bait and then catch the Tarpon.when a 100+pounder starts jumping five feet from the boat what a blast.
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
Len,
I did a copy and paste and it came back website not found. One of the guys that is going with us booked with a guy name Matt Urich out of Key Largo. He has the dates open we want to fish 3/21 & 3/22 but there is four of us going and he can only take two. I guess Matt is looking for a second captain but I don't know who it's going to be.
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
Hi Russ, try this to my site don't know why the cut and paste doesn't work on this site http://captlenrobertstailsup.com/
or go to Google and go to Capt. Len Roberts
We are already booked with Matt, one of the guys got impatient with me getting someone set up and did it himself. It's fine with me because if Matt doesn't do a good job no one can point fingers at me!
Re: Recommendation for Florida Tarpon fishing guide
