Default Another Company take over for Penn is there no end for this old Family owned business

I heard from a good source this evening that Shakespeare is taking over Penn, I hope they can do a better job than the last crew. What a way to ruin an American tradition

Are you saying Sea Striker sold the Penn Reels Company to Shakespeare?

Amen, aside from the internationals. Growing up it was all Penn, they never broke. Now its all Shimano, they never break

Penn, Shimano, Avet......they are all crap......none of those reels help me catch any fish.

I am giving some serious consideration of selling all of my fishing gear and replacing it with some of the fine products sold by Dezamet......I heard they are "Da Bomb" and will raise fish under any circumstances.

It's all over the web. Try a google search for "SHAKESPEARE FISHING TACKLE ACQUIRES PENN".

Here's one example:

Shakespeare has a big "garage sale" every spring here in Columbia, SC with some really good deals. Maybe I can pick up some 30W's on the cheap this year (or at least by next year)

I guess more Penn tackle will end up at K-mart and Wally World now...because thats where Sheakespere belongs, and needs to stay there.

The K2 Corporation is a San Diego County company, just minutes from the beach.
Chairman Richard Heckmann was a founder of Callaway Golf, is part owner of the Phoenix Suns, and loves to fish.
The company operates K2, Volkl, Marker and Worth among others as "premium" sporting goods brands, operating others as "mass market" brands.
Most likely this will be very good for the "high-end" US-made Penn models like Torques and Internationals, while the "mass-market" product will be what is supposed to be.

Learn something new every day. Didn't know K2 owned Shakespear, Pflueger, & Stearns (among others). I have been impressed w/ how K2 runs their business, so I hope this means good things or Penn. I still have (& use) my old green Penn 704 bought back in the 70's (for $32.50 - still have the box). I'd love to see some of the quality of the internationals (& torques) focused on their spinning reels.

Why did Sea Striker sell Penn? I hope they can keep International production here in the US.
