WAM BAM SLAMM SUPERSIZE ME
Friday I was determined to not go to the Rock or El Banco. I had my fill of Tuna, I know Blasphemy, wanted to troll some lures looking for billfish. Joined Capt Nick from the Natural High, and Josh agreed to a day of not catching tuna, So we headed out from Punta Mita due west coming across current rips and water color changes from clean green to deep blue. 3 miles west of the rock we put out the lures. Now Josh's computer is down and he may not have the chance to spin his version, so for those of you who might miss it, I offer the following: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, EPIC, EH, : I know I fall a little short but anyway!!
The spread of lures was no sooner set up when the right rigger crashed, and a 350# blue went ballistic, flips, jumps, greyhounding everything you want from a billfish, I was in heaven screaming backwards through a cloud of black smoke. In short time we cut our first billfish of the day loose. Decided to contine west to see what else the colbalt blues water had to offer. Spread backout, another 2 miles, and we were into a school of dorodo. In short time, 2 were on the deck and 1 was sent back. It was only 8:45. Spread back out, a little farther to the west, and a marlin crashed 2 baits on the left side, but nothing stuck. We turned her north, found some birds working, and A stripe marlin came up on the righr rigger, but missed a hook, Josh slid back a Cabajito, and hooked him up. Another Stripey followed the lures for a while but wouldn't bite. We continued north west and found a school of yellowfin, and in short time had 4 on the deck out of about 7 we had hits on. We continued to troll around the porpoise and birds in the area, and 2 of the right riggers went down, I assumed tuna, but no SAILFISH. This would make our Slam, and we quickly caught and released him. I was more than satisfied with the day so far, and it was not yet noon. Quickly talk turned to how many more we might catch, and we did have a few more stripe bites. a few more tuna strikes, and 2 more sailfish in the baits but nothing stuck. The wind was getting up to gust of 30 and we started angling towards the beach. I was about to give it up and head on home, when the left rigger went off with a marlin attached. He spent the entire fight below the surface until he was 70 feet from the boat and when he rolled and clearly it was a Black Marlin, SUPER SLAM. After releasing him, there were smiles and high 5's all around as we road the trough back to Punts Mita, What a day, 4 billfish releases, 3 dorado and 4 tuna. As my granddaughter would say WOW WEE.
Another awesome day with JT in the pit, thanks to all. Oh yeah. Sue and I had an official deal that we would not marry until we caught the Slam. So there was a proposal and an acceptance. And a celebration.
