Default Fishing Mexico

Going to West coast of Mexico in FEB looking for an offshore trip and inshore trip around Costa Careyes? Suggestions would be appreciated.

I think I would golf and snorkle, as I really cannot recommend the fishing operations.

If you want a panga at $200 a day, Capt Molina Jr who reserves out of the Cabo Blanco Hotel in Barra de Navidad is Barras best. He can take you outside for school tuna, and inshore to a spot known as Los Frailes. He has no livebait capabilities, so its trolling hoochies and plugs, or staying close to Grahm Point trolling skipjack to Marlin.

There are no 40' modern sportfishing boats at Los Carayes that I know of, and probably the best boat going is an older 30' cabin cruiser called the Mary Chuey, also in Barra about 30 minutes away in a cab, but neither of these services would rate more than 2 stars out of 5 IMO.

The Grand Bay marina at Isla Navidad may be able to recommend something more modern, and can also be reached by internet.

Los Careyes is for honeymooners or people that want a very low key vacation, locked into their bar and resturaunt. Puerto Vallarta has a lot more to offer.

Feb is usually a good month for fishing though. Can't say for sure as this is an el Nino cycle.

I keep my boat year round in Barra de Navidad, so this is one of my current stomping grounds.

I checked on this again and its a 45 minute cab ride to Barra, so it might be best to check with the hotel first before hunting down Alfredo Molina Jr, or have him pick you up at the hotel in his boat.
