Default Bunker Spoons

Can anyone recommend the best bunker spoon for trolling with wire line? I have always disliked fishing with wire but realize how effective it can be and have finally decided to get some wire line trolling rigs? Also, will a Shimano Tekota hold up to wire line? Thanks.

I dont use wireline but the spoons we most commonly use on the Chesapeake are

Tony Accetta 21 ( http://www.striper.net/tackle_lures_...pet-spoons.htm ),

Crippled Alewife 13/0 ( http://www.fishermansheadquarters.co...ip_alewive.htm ),

Chesapeake Bay spoons red eye bunker spoon ( http://storesense2.megawebservers.co...892/index.html )

This dosen't address your question, but are you opposed to downriggers? If not, they can be extremely effective depending on where and how you are fishing. With spoons I assume you are slow trolling and they are very adept for that!

Ditto.... These spoons are so big that smaller fish will pass them up. When you get one on with these spoons, it is a good bet that it is a honker.....

Thank you all for your responses. Looks like I'm going to go with the Julian spoons and the secret spoons. I'm leaning towards the Tekota 700 with 40# monel, haven't decided on a rod yet.

You might want to go with the Penn 113 HSP. It has the chrome over bronze spool vs aluminum. It is specially made for wire to avoid possible electrolysis of the wire w/ the aluminum spools. Also, some say avoid a level wind reel w/ wire. Not only to avoid kinking, but the wire might eat thru the levelwind eye.

Also - get a rod made for wire or the eyes will get a groove. If you are going with big spoons, check out the side riggers to get a better spread if you are going w/ two rods.

I've considered downriggers, but (at least in the NE) when you are trolling for stripers, you are usually bumping the bottom and constantly adjusting depth. Would be a pain to constanly adjust.

Go with Capt. Jimmy George's spoons. Best on the market, and will catch the biggest fish
