Random Quote: You can live on your boat but you can't fish in your house........JUST BUY IT....
I posted this a few weeks ago, but with the new forum thought I might get some additional info. Planning a trip in mid-March and the only offshore fishing I've done was on one of those party boats. Just got a new boat and want to do some serious fishing. What I need is a primer on where to go, what to take, baits. You name it and I probably don't know it, but want to learn. I have ordered several videos that were suggested as a response to my previous post on thei subject and I've read everything I could find on the topic. Heck, I even attended several forums at the Dallas boat show a couple of weeks ago. OK, I'm listening............
Thanks,
Barry :)

Give a litle more detail in you post concerning your boat size/range, fish you are searching for, etc and I am sure that many of the TX people on this board will respond with some valuable information. The approach even changes for the same type of fish depending on the tactics you are deploying. I have some experience fishing out of Matagorda and may be able to answer some of you questions concernign the area.
By the way, I actually just moved to Houston from N.O. La so if you need someone to fill a spot or want to learn how we catch them in the fishing capital of the world send me an email.
I have fished a quite a bit in the bays and some near offshore around Galveston years ago. Just got a Donzi 23ZF center console with a 250 Merc and 140 gal fuel tank. Boat is equipped with radar, GPS, chartplotter, VHF and we want to go offshore. We have saltwater gear, i.e., Penn 209's, boat rods, etc. Just getting started and would like to fish around some of the rigs initially and then venture farther out. I realize that the weather is of prime importance and that a 23 (or anything else) is very susceptible to storms. We will use caution and if the weather is iffy, we'll stay in protected waters.
Don't rememer if I responded earlier but I have all of George Poveromo's tapes and they are all excellent. The kingfishing tape (dave workman?) is also excellent. These are available through basspro. A little dry but they taught me alot. In fact the deck hand on the boat in the Bahamas last week was doing his terminal rigging competely wrong!! His haywire twist were a joke. I wouldn't have had a clue before.....

Hey Gibbs, go to the George R Brown Conv. Center for the Hunting and Fishing show this weekend and find Tom Hilton's booth. Get one of his fishing maps or books. Pick his brain while you're there on lures, bait, etc. Otherwise, envite me and I'll bring all the stuff and show you how it's done.
