Default Fishing in Mexico

My wife and I are planning a cruise to the Mexican Rivera. Knowing that the fishing doesn’t get much better than this location I am curious if anyone can make a first hand recommendation of a charter. While Cabo usually steald the fame for this areas fishing, I am at that port the least amount of time. The locations times are as follows:

Cabo from 10:30am – 6:00pm
Mazatlan from 8:00am – 5:30pm
Puerto Vallarta from 8:00am – 10:00pm

I would be most comfortable booking something in Puerto Vallerta since I am there the longest. Has anyone done any charter fishing or been to these locations on a cruise? Will there be people on the docks offering to take us fishing? Are these area safe of crime?

Thanks in advance
Tim

PV is safest, then Cabos, then Mazatlan.

Email Capt Josh at hunt4giants@yahoo.ca and he will set you up.

I highly recommend him.

Hi Tim please feel free to email my wife Catherine at info@primetimeadv.com and she can fill you in on particulars regarding rates and availability...it is very safe down here...unless you are a giant tuna or marlin...then you are definitely not safe...

Bullshipper, how did you make this determination that PV is safer than Cabo vs Mazatlan ? PV is safest, then Cabos, then Mazatlan.
Look forward to your thoughts on this and why ?

Just my experience, and what I read in spanish in the local newspapers.

Mazatlan is a port that moves a lot of drugs, is a large city with poor agricultural and dock workers in Sinaloa, which is probably one of the toughest states after Juarez, Loredo, and Mexico City.

I have been going to Cabos since the innaguaracion of the finnistierra in the middle 60's, and time and growth has affected this little town that depends so heavily on american turists. Offseason is worse, but you have to be careful these days about using ATM's, cabs at night, and the back areas of San Jose de Cabos are pretty rough if you believe the crime page in the local spanish newspapers.

PV is most affluent of the 3 and the place is crawling with cops. This is true for much of the central mainland cities that seem to have a lot more budget than the poor baja or less dense northern mainland states. Here the affluent tourists come from Mexico as much or more so than the ststes, and the place is booming economy wise. The influx of american companies, banks and franchises has added more security orientation than ever with rent a cops suplimenting the minicipal, state, federal, and afi special police stationed there, as well as a large navy base.

I looked for some crime stats to back this up, but if you read the english internet, no one has ever been robbed, raped or killed in any of these large tourist areas.

So all I can say is this summation is common street knowledge and my opinion after living here permanently for 30 years.

I have to agree with bullshipper. I have been going to PV for over 25 years and always felt safe there, day or night, however, I did like it better before it became so built up.

Cabo is another story and I do not feel comfortable there, even the Cabo police need to be watched.

Never have been to Mazatalan so I can not comment on it from personal experience.
