Several of the neighbors have the 350s. Easy to use, holding up well in the heavy salt down here, and they love 'em. Sport Slam kit goes for only about $800, but you need to reach over the top to adjust.

Best I've worked with.

Rupp and Lee's make the nicest IMO. I had taco's on the last boat, not impressed

Taco Grand Slam is a great setup can't go wrong.

Had Rupp Top Guns on old boat and only had to rebuild'em 4 times. Getting parts takes a little time and with a short season in the Northeast it wasn't a good situation.

Had rupp top guns on my other boat. Hated them. sometimes hard to deploy, takes lots of strength. had grease leaks, noise and lateral movement while underway. If I were going to have those again, I'd get the gear-driven variety to at least take the strain out of deploying.

if you had grease leaks on your Rupps you didn't drill drain holes. And all that "grease" was your alum. corrodin' !! Rupps are great and are among the best out there plus there cusomer service is A+.

Todd,

I'm using Lee OH277T T-Top 1 1/2"ID Outrigger Holders and Lee AP3716XS 16' 1 1/2"OD Outrigger Poles. I don't know if they are "best", but I'm delighted with them.

I put this same set up on the hard top of my Dusky 256. I liked them a lot. The only down side is they deploy from the top.

Now I have the Taco's and they are very good IMO.

ive got relax outrigger holders, very hard to use.
you risk going for a swim with the poles every time you put them out.
dos'nt seem there is a better option in oz, maybe i have to make some.
any close up shots would be great.

When you say "Top Gun", I believe you want a comparison of the Rupp Z-30 and the Taco 350's. I compared both, along with the Lee's, and went with the Taco's. The Taco's have the unique ability to be raised and lowered from the underside of the T-Top. This comes in handy for me, (especially when I'm alone), as I have an old drawbridge that was built in the 1920's that requires that I lower the riggers each trip out to the inlet. No jumping up on the gunnel to raise or lower the poles. The Rupps only crank out or in, and you must still control the angle from the knob up top. Lee's do not offer any crank option. The Taco 350's are heavy duty, (very heavy installing when compared to a buddy's Taco 250's), and the quality of the finish has been great so far. I also have used them one season, and have no evidence of corrosion in the harsh New Jersey coastal environment. I do wax them once a month But frankly, if you don't need to raise and lower your outriggers on a regular basis, it is not necessary to go with the Taco 350's.

What size hole is recommended without jeopardizing the integrity of the t-top structure? I'm a little hesitant to drill holes due to fear of the pipes cracking later as a result. I assume that a drain hole would need to be at lowest portion of the pipe, and not necessarily near the actual rigger assembly...?

What's the longest pole that a manufacturer actually recommends for a t-top installation? I'd like to run 19-21' poles but I'm pretty sure that no one makes a t-top mount for those...this true?

On a 23 foot boat 16' are fine when run from the hard top.

My dad's friends fish day in and day out (retired and rich are good things to be) and they were telling me one of the things they would do over if they had the chance would be BIGGER outriggers on their smaller boats...I'm just trying to follow their more educated than me lead.

i will use 1 of the 15's as a center rigger.

When using longer poles on smaller boats, the poles often extend several feet
beyond the transom (depending on pole positioning), and extra caution when docking is recommended.

When in the running position (poles pointed straight back and angled at ~45º), conventional advice is
that the poles should not extend more than 2' beyond the transom. This doesn't mean that you can't
use longer poles, but that extra attention is sometimes needed.
