Default Florida Keys Fishing - Staying in Long Key

Near Long Key State Park.

It looks like Islamorada is the place to charter but I'm open to all suggestions. I have some teen agers that want to hook into some fish, perhaps a couple of kids too. Half or full day is all good...and I'm open to renting a boat if you guys on this forum could teach a West Coast SF Bay Area homey how to fish the Keys! I can jig swimbaits for rockfish on Nor Cal reefs, but don't know jack about the warm water stuff.

Lead me in the right direction, send me links, emails, or whatever you can find me... we want to catch fish!!

Thanks very much for any help.

Steve

When you going? I have been going to the Keys for 20+ years for vacations every year. While I am not as knowledgeable as a local I can give you some pointers...Don't worry about a charter boat there are tons there. Islamorada is the closest city although you will find civilization for the whole stretch of the Keys. If you have never been plan on spending a day in Key West (old town) it is a definite place to see if you have never been. As far as fishing, I know in the winter time they get a pretty good little bite of Tuna out at the "humps" off of Islamorada. Light tackle fishing for many species should be good along with Cobia on some of the local gulf wrecks. Be sure and check out the Florida Sportsman website. It has different regions around Florida (Northeast, Central, The Keys, etc) you can get a lot of info on fishing there from locals...If you want restaurant recommendations let me know...You will have a blast...
