how are you capable of catching a pacific sailfish on a fly with the maximum of 20x tippet... isnt that the maximum... if you managed to get through the fight how wouyld you wire the fish??? doesnt 20x tippet mean 20 lb. test....if it does the second you grabbed the leader it would break??

Very carefully as a 111 was caught in 1993 on 2 lb test with conventional tackle and a 94.5 was caught on a 4 lb tippet fly rod in 1991.

128.5 is the fr record for a 20 lb tippet, both in Costra Rica.

You don't wire the fish. You get the fly back. The whole leader rig has to be sent in to IGFA for testing. There's no such thing as a 20x tippet. 02X = 0.13 diam or 16lb test and 04X = 0.15 diam or 20lb test. Both Umpqua leader materiels. Problem is every brand is different. In the old days 02X was the same no matter which brand it was.

FWIW, .013" is 2/0 X or 00 X, not 02X - FWIW. Its the same for the other sizes as well.

Then again, maybe its different in Canada. (I edited this when I noticed your location)

In the case of tournaments, not IFGA
I believe that a fish is considered caught in a tourny when the leader is touched. the allowable length of the leader is generaly 12-15 feet, depending on the tournament.

Correct me if I am wrong.
