I have one souce I trust that says being underpropped also helps make oil (on all 4 strokes). Andy?

Glen....over propped(engine is well below its rated WOT rpm)will sometimes cause this. Never heard of being underpropped causing this. Being underpropped is a very rare condition anyways.A cold running engine(stuck opent-stats) will cause this. Excessive carbon build up will cause this. A cylinder leak down test can pin point the cylinder that is not "tight".

Spark Plug color (black)is a good indicator if the engine is being over fueled for some reason (ECU or injectorcaused).

It's hard to just say its this or its that..............hence the reason I ask the all the questions andto try and get an idea of how someone uses there boat andthe enginehistory.

Also have to add..........it depends on how you check your oil. With the engine off you need to tilt the engine up for a couple of minutes to get all of the engine oil behind the pistons to drain back into the pan. Sometimes that amount is quite a bit. I will see local customers come in a say that there engine is using a little oil. I tell them how to check it and usually they forget to tilt em up first.
