Capt. John Deering - 12/2/2006 7:41 AM what do you use to install the new collar above the impeller assy?
After the plastic white bushing is installed, I tap with a small hammer down on a adjustable wrench that is sitting on top of that SS collar.
Hard to describe, but it works just fine and damages nothing. There is no special Yamaha tool for this.(that I am aware of)..

Thanks for the pics.
I replaced the impeller of my 6hp Yamaha with them as a guide. I put the housing back as it was previously installed. However still no water is produced from the vent under the cowling as it should if it flows through properly. Just as before. The old impeller looked in reasonable condition but I changed it anyway.
Before I pull it apart again.... can anyone say whether the water intake of the impeller housing should be directly opposite the outlet OR offset so that the water enters the bottom aperture and is forced out the top of the impeller chamber but on the opposite side.
Iam not sure about your 6hp outboard.I just installed a impeller on my 2000 yamaha and it only goes in one way, because in back of the housing on this motor is another hole you line up with another tube up above that goes to the water pump indicator. The problem I had was lining up the shaft with the power head,it took me a lot of times to finally get it on,after that, it pumped fine. Also did you use the ear muffs for the intake, alot of times if it is not line up right it won't pump water, if that is the case, use a barrel.Hope I helped.
never done this before and looks very helpful. when you cut the speedo tube do you just replace the whole tube or just try to reattch. and do you cut just to save time or is there another way without cutting it?
We cut them right above the fitting. You can feel the end of it with your fingers. Do not try to pull it off, otherwise you will be replacing that plastic fitting it slides on. They break easily.
There should be enough extrahose to re-attach.

ok andy thank you and I guess it is easy enough to replace the tubing if you keep the engine a long time... Also how do you recommend removing the left over tubings on the plastic fitting once you cut it.

With the drive off, you use a sharp knife or razor blade and just cut it carefully.

I use 2 saw horses pushed as close as possible after setting the ant-cavitation plate on top. Then screw 2 boards to the top of the saw horses to keep them from seperating and as a tool rest.

andy - awesome post! i need to replace impeller this year. did you ever finish the install proceedure? i have a 2003 f225, can you help me on putting together a parts list?
Not trying to push you into a CC wheel, but THTer Hotspot has a awesome thread in the CC section of the THT showing him replacing his F200's water pump with some pretty nice pics. Start to finish
Yamaha has a kit for water pump. That along with 5 small other parts not included in the kit is all you need.
Thank you,
Andy

There are 3 washers and a plastic collar and a SS collar that fits over the top of that. The washers can be re-used but the other two parts can some times be damaged while removing them.
You want me to tell Lisa to add them?
Thanks
Andy
