Does your company deal in complete Volvo engines? I read the writeup on the new D3 in this months Pro Boat mag. I'm wondering about em for the alloy cat I'm building.
The ones I'm looking at is the D3 160 hp model in a sterndrive setup. Need jackshafts, approx 24" also but don't know if this engine is available with the shafts.
Reading the write up on this engine in Professional Boatbuilder mag, I see it is rated for 2000 hours use by Volvo. I wonder if it is rebuildable, I assume since it's an alum block that the cylinders are sleeved with replaceable sleeves? Any ideas on this?
But at any rate I'm seriously interested if they will work. There's no local Volvo dealer around here so I want to find a dealer who can quickly supply parts when needed. I'd be interested in pricing and availability from you. We're a commercial alum fab shop with tax resale certs.
All my current Volvo price books do not show those engines yet. I will call Volvo on Monday and get your info. At least from what I can tell, they are a cast liner, common rail, non supercharged, engine. Also the engine block and cylinder heads are aluminum. Looks like a neat setup.
I do have the D-3 installation guides, operators’ manuals and some other misc info. If you want to email me at andyjr@shipyardisland.com, I will reply and attach all the information I have. It’s not practical to do it here. The operator’s manual alone is 93 pages in a PDF format.
I'm currently out of the office and away from my Volvo Penta parts information. I'll be back in my office on Thursday. If you can wait till then, great. If not, let me know, and I'll get it before then.
Andy, I would like to publicly thank you again for your quick response over a Holiday weekend.
I emailed Andy Saturday afternoon with a parts question. He responded quickly with a parts list and drawing. I put together an order. He replied with a quote. All of this after 3pm.and under 2 hours. I called this morning with a credit card and shipping info to complete the order.
Hi there,
I recently purchased a nice Tolly that had been repowered. It is a straight inboard. These are the numbers for it:
BB 740 A SW 4100126015 86817
I am interested in the model year, technical specifications etc. Also interested in life expectancy for the exhaust risers. Is it time to replace them now? And of course, How Much?
Hi Wally.
The engine spec number you gave me,provides the following information:
Selling Dealer: Mercer Marine
Vessel: 28 Tolly Craft Express
Hull ID# 28-4134
Customer Delivery Date: 12-07-1990 Seattle,WA
Engine Model 740A-BT
Vessel use: Pleasure
HP: 300
It also gives the original owners personal information.
What technical specs are you looking for?
As far as your exhaust goes, what type of cooling system does it have. From the factory, Volvo offered a closed and open type system for that model. I assume from the boat being in the Pacific NW that it has a closed system. From the parts diagrams I can see, the closed system looks like a full system, meaning the exhaust manifolds have anti-freeze running through them as well. Correct? Some aftermarket closed systems are 1\\2 systems meaning the exhaust manifolds have seawater cooling them. Are there two hoses connected to each exhaust manifold and only one hose to the riser? If this is what you have then its a fully closed system, which is good.
The only way to tell for sure about the condition of your risers is to remove and inspect them. If they look original, that would make them 13 years old and used in saltwater. My advice would be if you are worried about it then remove and inspect them.
I believe I have the closed freshwater system.
So what's the going rate for a set of risers shipped to Puget Sound? Thanks again for the prompt and crisp reply.
Anytime this week would be great. I would like all 3 drawing and if there is one for the trim cylinders also. I've got my drive off and there are a couple of things I want to change over the winter just for PM.
