Default Yamaha F150 Prop and Boston Whaler 19ft Outrage

Hi everyone
I am in the process of buying a new "out of the box" Yamaha F150 for our 1994 Boston Whaler 19ft Outrage after the Evinrude 150HP 2 stroke blew up with wife & kids on board in a thunder storm....
Boat weighs about 2000 lb (without wife /kids)
What prop should I buy? Stainless or Aluminum (will be used in the Gulf of Mexico, hot, shallow and salty)?
Where is best place to buy and how much should I pay?
Will be used for fishing but kids want to w/ski too.
Thanks for your help.
Richard

If you receive a prop with the engine it will probably be aluminum. Check out the performance with your boat as normally equipped. If you have a GPS or can borrow a handheld plot RPM vs Speed. The maximum RPM you can turn will dictate which direction to go with the prop pitch.

My boat weighed 1900 lbs before adding motor and fluids, (fuel) etc. The prop was a 17 pitch.

I am currently experimenting with 4 blade props. Nothing to report so far, not satisfied with pitch/diameter combination.

Peter,

Welcome to the THT!

I did two recent re-powers on the late eighties 19 BW Outrages. One was an HPDI 150 and the other was a F150.

The HPDI boat is running a 13-34 by 17 Yamaha black SS and the F150 runs the same as well. The F150 could probably spin a the 19 black SS, but for what the owner uses the boat for and his typical loads the 17 worked out better. Both boats do 50 plus easily. Kind of scarry at that speed*though...lots of chine walking. We put hydraulic steering on both because we could not get the torque steer managed.......

Email me at parts@shipyardisland.com if you are interested in a quote for either prop.

Andy

I just came back this morning from my dealer, who has just put a Yamaha F150 on my 190 Boston Whaler Nantucket. We plan on testing a few props. One thing interesting my rigger said was that at a Yamaha seminar they were told that the Yamaha Stainless Saltwater props seemed to cause some kind of "clanging", and that they were not recommending them. Right now he has a Mercury Vengeance prop 13 3/8 by 19, and that will be the first one we try, followed by the Yamaha Black SS props, which supposedly work great and are robust, but rust comes through. I'll report back. My boat is 2000 lbs without the engine also.
