I have seen many very good posts on how to change the water pump on this engine. All say to cut the speedo tube. My question is can I just cut the zip tie? I would think this would make it so you don't have to replace teh speedo tube all the time.
The reason for cutting the tube is that its very hard to pull it off the barbed fitting without busting the plastic fitting it is attached too. But with a F150, you don't have to cut the tube because it uses a different style of slip-off connector.
But on engines that do have the barbed fitting, you will have to cut the tube.

Ok guys I set up my handy cam and my digital camera. My friend Bryan and I removed the lower unit. We put the lower unit in a stand and removes the impeller and housing. Then we got to the F#C$EN Woodriff Key. We pounded at it for 3 hours. It got mangled so bad that the lower unit is now at the mechanics. I would put the pics and video I have up to that point on here but Andy would have to censor it. My recommendation is to watch you mechanic do this first then give it a try. It really is not as easy as it look. I did save money on buying my part through Andy though.
Sorry to hear about that Chad, you aren't the first, and you won't be the last.
Wish they would change that effin design.
Andy

Damn, bunger, that sux...I used a dremel tool with the small cut off wheel and cut a groove in that key..then you use the largest pair of tile nippers you can buy and squeeze the key as you pull it out. I read it here first, tried it and needed to use that technique on both my F 115's...
Here is a photobucket link with headings on my F 115's maintenance..
I wish I would have seen those pics last week!! HAHA! At least my mechanic was cool and felt bad for me. He did not even charge me. He said he does not mind teaching me some of his tricks since I have given him business by would of mouth.

Wow..lucky Dude...that's a good mechanic to have. Keep reading here and you may be able to do most all of the basic stuff yourself. I was bored one day and even went so far as to check the valve lash..required for my 400 hr. service..no different than my old Triumphs....
By the way, I determined that the water pumps had never been touched on my F115's. That meant they were 7 yrs and 340 hrs old. I think these are gonna stay in there for a couple of years at least..Just gonna drop and grease the spline and the prop shaft...
