Default 85 90 hp Yamaha water pump replacement

I have a 1985 90 HP Yamaha MODEL#90ETLK, Ser# 6H1l-452860.

I want to attempt to remove the lower unit to replace the water pump, impeller, etc.

Ialso want to change the thermostat.

Is the process difficult ,ie. linkage to be disconnected etc?

Iknow this type of work is different from pre-retirement experience as a Telephone technician, but I can use tools and follow technical instructions and prints.

Are water pump parts (kits) ,and thermostats available for this model and any idea as to the cost?

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Yoda, **

I would start by purchasing or borrowing a Yamaha service manual for that engine. $50 plus shipping. Have a look at it and go over some of the maintenance items you want to tackle. See if you feel comfortable doing it.

Gear case removal and a*water pump kit install*on*my unoffical "Joe Six Pack" scale of one to 10 is a 4-5. A*10*being a engine re-build. Thermostat replacement*is very simple. The hardest part of your job will be getting*stuff apart. An engine of that vintage if used in saltwater........*it could*be hard to get things loose*or apart depending on its past repair history.

Thanks Andy.

The engine was used in fresh water for the first 15 years. I bought it from the original owner ,who maintened it very well. I now use it in Florida's brackish river water for the past 4 years.

Therefore, getting the housing, bolts ,etc, apart might not be too difficult.

Is there anywhere that I can access the print -diagram of the lower unit housing, water pump for this model?

It would give me an idea as to whether I can do the job or not .
