Default F225 gearcase oil

Andy,
I went and checked out my gearcases yesterday and saw that my port CR oil is black, however my starboard regular rotation oil still looks good and relatively clear. Both were changed at the same time the beginning of last summer. Why would the counter rotation oil be so much more used looking? Is this typical, or is there a potential problem?

Also I am switching to synthetic motor oil, and wanted to start using synthetic in my gearcases. Do you have any recomendations on a synthetic gearcase lube?

Thanks,
Maclin

Hey Mac, I remember reading a post about this a while back. Had something to do with the fact that the counter rotating unit had a little less oil in it, which in turn meant it ran hotter. Hence the blacker oil. You might be able to do search and find out more info. Good luck. RK
