Default 2005 F225 Full Service

First thread here: http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...231365&posts=9

Sim,

I'm interested in performing a full service on a friends F225. Motor has 800+ hours, no pre-filtration (racor), and just started experiencing hesitation issues on Saturday. It has been serviced at dealer up until now, last service was about 200 hours ago.

We want to replace all filters, oil, impeller, plugs, etc. Basically a complete service of anything that can be done by the DIY'er. Is there a parts list for this that I can pass off to my buddy to purchase from ya?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Bob,

We are very very close(I have been saying that for months now ) to opening our Yamaha parts only website. But until thats ready, you can shoot me an email to parts@shipyardisland.com and I will reply to that with a quote for the parts.

You don't have a 10 mic boat mounted fuel filter? You seriously need to add one. I know you have not had one for 800 hours, but you need to do that. Most likely your hesitation issues are from a restricted VST pump fuel strainer. At 800 hours you are way over due for that service.

Thank you,

Andy

Well, my friend received all the parts from Andy last week, and we performed the following service on the F225 with 800+ hours and no pre-filter for fuel. Neither of us had ever done this before. Up until now, what was under that Gray cowling was complete mystery.

VST Tank strainer replacement, including gaskets.
Fuel filter above VST Tank replaced
Water-Pump replaced
Primary Fuel Filter and gaskets replaced
Thermostats replaced
Oil Filter Replaced

New SS Yamaha water seperator base and Racor added.

Lower unit oil change.
Motor Oil change.

All this went off without a hitch, thanks to the DIY pictures here. We didn't even have any spare parts left over. Surprisingly, the VST Strainer was clean as a whistle. This surprised me since the boat has never had pre-filtration. I guess running the boat every weekend helps. The small plastic F-Shaped filter above the VST tank was almost completely clogged, though, which surely was the culprit for our WOT issues coming back in from offshore recently.

Thanks Andy!!

Glad to hear it Bob! And thank you for the business. We appreciate that.

I was reading your other thread on not getting WOT rpms by 800. I would not mess with the throttle body linkages or their adjoining inverted torq head adjustments.

Lets go back to why he had it to the dealer to begin with. They replaced the throttle cables?

The F225 has had a couple of recalls that were specifically for the throttle linkages and throttle bushings. What is the serial number for that engine?

Sorry for the large fonts.......I have a hard time reading the new style with this new format

Andy

Andy,

The dealer replaced throttle cables recently due to 'sticky' throttle. It is (and always has been) real difficult to move the throttle at the helm. I suppose due to the throttle cable routing.

It feels the same to me as it always has. My buddy agrees. I found out about the bushing/linkage recalls, and my buddy is checking with the dealer who has performed all maintenance up to now to see if they have been performed. He thinks not.

I don't have the SN's handy, but manufacture date on the engine is late '04. We haven't messed with the linkages, other than adjusting the throttle cable. I know one thing though, the butterflies aren't opening like they should. Half the throttle body is still covered by butterfly at WOT, same on all TB's. And the plastic bushing that rides in U-Shaped plastic channel has a LOT of play. Real sloppy.

My friend said his boat ran 50mph, 6100 rpms (LIGHT) when he first got it. Yesterday we only managed 5200rpm at 42mph. 19 pitch SS prop.

Oh, and by the way, I found out we saved my buddy $1000 in labor costs by doing it ourselves. Thanks again!
