Default Trim gauge not working...

I did a search and saw some people having this issue, but I wasn't able to figure out the solution.

Have a new F115 with 70 hours. Used the boat yesterday and I noticed the trim gauge was stuck at high position. The trim on the engine works fine. Even though the engine is under warranty I don't really want to haul it in for repair if it is something I can fix myself easily.

If I'm looking at the back of the motor, I can see/feel a little rocker arm/switch on the right side. The motion on the switch seems fine, but when I move it I see no difference in the trim gauge. There is a little round bracket near the switch thats cracked and will move fairly easily.

Does anyone have any help they can give? Additionally, pictures/diagrams would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Default RE: Trim gauge not working...

Keith,

The round cam bracket should not move, and for some reason it is common for those to break. Email me your ship to info and engine primary ID number and I will send you a replacement.

If you want to verify that the sender works, trim the engine all the way up. Then from underneath you can move that sender arm in full up and down motion. Have someone look at the gauge and see if the gauge reacts. You will need to dothis slowly since theYamaha MF tach trim gauges react slowly(I assume that is the gauge you have).

Thanks Andy. I will find the info when I get home. I have the round Yamaha digital gauges, which I think are the MF ones. The tach has RPM, trim, and the idiot lights for oil and water.

I moved the switch pretty quick and didn't see a change, so that might be the problem. Is the round cam bracket easy to replace?

Keith,

Its very easy to replace the cam collar. Pop it over the tilt tube, and install the phillips head screw. Adjust the collar so the trim gauge shows all the way down when the engine is fullydown.

Good!

I forgot my engine serial information at home. I will make sure I bring it tomorrow. I just want to get the piece and fix it! Thanks for the help Andy. I also need to get some more ring free as well.
