Default F225 Idle RPM

Andy,

My '05 F225 idles at 1100 rpm when I first start it up. I would guess this may be some sort of cold start/fast idle setting, and it should drop down to 650-700 after a period of time, but it doesn't. Regardless of how cold or hot it is, whenever I start it, thats where it idles. Needless to say, this creates a considerable thunk when I drop it in gear, and I can't imagine its good for the drivetrain.

Is this normal? Is this a computer related fix (read - take it to the dealer), or is there something I can adjust? The motor is under warranty til November of this year, so if your expert opinion is to see my mechanic, then that is what I will do.

Thanks in advance

No...... it should not idle that high. Even when it is cold its not that high.

Does it run OK otherwise?

Can you verify that the throttle cable where is connects under the cowling is pulling the engines throttle linkage back to idle all the way? Try disconnecting it and pulling it back by hand.

Do you have the primary ID handy? Not sure if a 05 F225 engine qualifies for the throttle link recall kit but that might be it too.

Andy,

Thanks for the quick response....I thought something might be amiss. It seems to run alright otherwise....my first 4 stroke so don't really have anything to compare it to. I do think the "thunking" is not good for the lower unit and driveshaft though....so I want to get it looked at.

The primary ID is 69JX -1017106

Brian,

Your engine falls under the Yamaha recall for the throttle link arm replacements and from the Yamaha dealer site it appears that your engine was never modified(or the dealer never claimed it). Take it into your dealer and have that done (no charge under warranty). Part of that procedure is verifing the correct setup for the throttle linkage anyways.

I appreciate it.

Is there a recall number or campaign number I should reference when I call the dealer? Might make it a little easier for them...

Thanks again....

Andy,

Was able to get the recall # from the dealer (990028 - Bulletin 2004-10).

Unfortunately now its a 2 week wait to get in to the shop.

Thanks again for the help....

Good Info..thanks
My F225 idles a little high at start-up and then settles down to 6-700 rpm in under 10 seconds before I put it in gear...
Does this seem the norm after having the recall performed?
I can only imagine the thunk @ 1100 rpms,
I hope you get it fixed soon Parthery, that is alot of clunk for the buck

good luck
