Default Yamaha 130

Just replaced the transom in my 1976, 20’ SeaCraft and raised it to 25”. I’ve never owned a Yamaha motor, but I’m am seriously looking at their 130 for the boat due to its’ great HP/weight ratio. I’ve looked around Yamaha's web site and other boating sites and understand that production of the engine stopped in 2004 (?), and it may have been made in a Saltwater Series configuration at some point in time.

Could you please give me a brief overview of what forms/configurations the engine was made in, say from 2000 to 2004? Also, searching the internet over the last couple of months, I’ve found a couple of ads for "...new, in the crate...", late model 130's. Both were offered with full warranties. Are there potential start-up issues/problems with engines that have been stored for 3 to 4 years (water pump impellas, for example)?

Thank you.

Default RE: Yamaha 130

DC,

The engine did not change between those years. Maybe a decal here or there and thats about it.

If they are new in the crate, then they are new in the crate. If they are unregistered then they would have a warranty when they are registered. Assuming these are Yamaha USAengines.

The engines are drained fully when they are shipped from Japan so I would not think there would be any issue's with that. Water pumps......$50 in parts and they are fully replaced so that would be a worse case scenario with them. Tell the dealers to throw a pump in there if you are concerned.
