I have an older Garmin 3205 installed currently on my boat and like it- looking for a new fish finder/sonar. Should I try to mate with Garmin network and the 3205- or just get another stand alone unit? Any benefits from the 2 together?
Shoot some #'s either way- want to be under $500

Thanks in advance-

You are best going to a current model unit...if you want a fishfinder only ..look at the Furuno GP1870f...$499 after a $200. rebate.

Guessing you prefer that unit over the- Elite-7 CHIRP, MFG 000-11659-001 w/ 83/200+455/800...$510.?
That is one I had been looking at- being the expert could you give a few hints as to why for my own knowledge..
Thanks again for your assistance

Either will work...just the Furuno will outlast the lowrance by many years due to the higher built quality.

The Furuno to be used a s chartplotter needs to have charts purchased..not cheap....but as a stand alone fish finder is the better sonar by far.

Would like to go with a combo unit since the 3205 is older.. What is your opinion on the Hummingbirds? Are they worth looking at?
I would like to go with a 7" screen, the more I read about the Elite 7 I think I better keep looking..

Is the Furuno GP1870F a combo unit or just a fish finder? What I find on the net says it's a combo unit. I see the price you have it for ($499 after rebae). What is the price for charts? I fish the southern shore of the Chesapeake bay, rivers, and Atlantic coast of Virginia Beach.

Crazy as it sounds, will be used in a 21ft Starcraft aluminum boat. I go far in that boat even though limited by a 19 gallon tank.

It is a combo..but many buy it to use as a fishfinder only etc.

Charts are extra..not cheap..$170 to $279 etc.

If you want a good chartplotter and sonar..look at the 74dv....$799.99 and then you get a $100 rebate.

Also the Simrad Go7..$599. plus whatever ducer you select.

In your opinion Gill, how does the Fcv295 stack up against the chirp units? With it being adjustable 1-3kw would there be any real difference in deep water? And what would be a transducer you would pair with the 295?Thx
