Default scuba vacation? where to go? xy

We were planning a trip to Grand Cayman this coming spring. Flights aren't working out. Any ideas on where to go that would provide awesome diving, some fishing and plenty to do for non divers.

I just dove Grand Turk last May and it's the most incredible sight. We dive the wall so it's basically a straight drop from 70ft to 4000ft. Plenty of marine life. Same day my GoPro decided not to work. I will be going back to do it again.
St. Thomas was the same trip. It was cool but nowhere near as good.
Little easier with more to do onshore, the keys or west palm. Not exotic but gives you a lot to do.

I like St. Croix for scuba diving.
Been there 15-18 times to dive.
Always used the dive shop at the Salt River Marina, they are only minutes from the drop-off wall.
Great diving and easy flights from the US, get a hotel anywhere on the island and a rental Jeep.
Takes a few minutes to get used to driving on the left side of the road.
Been staying mostly at the Hotel On The Cay, a hotel on a small island in the middle of the harbor.
Good beach right there and a free boat ride to the mainland (2 minutes) drop you off where all the bars are restaurants are located in Christiansted.
All of the above highly recommended.

Bonaire has some of the clearest water. Belize is great. Also had som adventurous dives off Cabo. Great Barrier Reef was a hoot.

I second Belize... Stay in San Pedro Island Ambergis Cay... They have some of the most pristine waters, plenty of great diving to do there and you are only a few hours away from the Blue Hole...

For non-diving activities you have cave exploring, jungle tours, eco tours, cave tubing, Mayan temples and ruins to see and explore, fishing, awesome food everywhere you go and everyone speaks English since it was a former British Colony.

I have been all over the Islands diving and on vacations and we own property in Dominican Republic and Belize is my favorite place by far!!!

Haven't dove in years but Bonaire was both my brother's and my favorite and he has done at least 30 dive trips to most of the carribean locations, mexico, Truk and Palau, etc.. The last two he enjoyed as well but different type of diving.

I have also dove Palau and many great spots around the globe.
Bonaire is at the top of my list.

What excatly does "differnt type of diving" mean? I'm a new diver and can get to Palau relatively easily. My in interest in Paula has been piqued for some time.

Trying to stay in the Atlantic? Kona, has excellent fishing, and amazing Diving. If interested, let me know I can connect you with both.

If you are looking for something like Cayman, I'd suggest Belize or Cozumel. Another option would be Roatan, but it's not as built up (other things to do) as what you were doing.

Turks and Caicos is also a good choice. Diving not as good as the other 2 places I suggested (IMO), but still very good.

Cayman or Belize for something reasonably close. Australia is still there if you want the ultimate experience.

My recollection is he did a lot of wreck diving for one when in truk. I also recall the islands being different. I think they were more tropical versus arid. I have never been to Micronesia but I know he was not disappointed. The beauty of the reefs, the ease of access, maybe even the people he was with always placed bonaire on top. I know after the hurricane hit some years back he started going elsewhere when he was still diving. He no longer dives due to an injury. I also loved Bonaire having been several times many years back.

We stopped at Roatan Island Honduras, during a cruise. I didn't get the chance to dive but did do some snorkeling.
That was enough to make me want to go back but never had the chance.

I just came from Roatan. The water is amazing. There is reefs and diving everywhere you go.Catch fish everywhere you go. The water drops off like a cliff. Its the second largest reef besides the Great Barrier.

We could answer your question better if we knew where you'd be traveling from.

I've been diving in Cozumel a couple of times, and needless to say it's excellent diving. And flights are easy to catch from many U.S. cities--at least into Cancun.

We've been to many Caribbean and Florida dive places. I would put Roatan and Belize at the top of our list of the best. Cozumel wall was also outstanding.
