Default Okuma Andros 16II clicker too quiet

Please see the thread I posted in the Sportfishing forum: Okuma Andros 16II Clicker too quiet

Quick summary is that I love the reels -- Amazing drag and perfect size for fighting standup with braid and the Okuma SCT-80 rods. BUT... the clicker is so quiet, you can't hear the rod going off when a fish hits. I have twin Yamaha F250 4-strokes which are about as quiet as you can get! I realize we should be watching all the rods all the time, etc, but there's theory and there's practice. I never have any trouble hearing my shimano reels when I get a strike...

Any way to fix this? I saw a thread posted on Alan Tani's site about folks turning the clicker around or adding springs to an Andros 5, but this wasn't possible on the 16II with the existing parts. Perhaps there's a stronger spring available?

Thanks!

This is the same with the Okuma Andros 16SE, very soft clicker, BUT due to the specification of what the reel is for, which is billfish fishing I like it that the clicker has very little resistance on freespool. In the event you want to walk away from the rod you can leave it at the bullseye setting with the clicker on. The clicker could be louder on this reel yes, but I guess that will come at a price to freespool resistance, so I like it that way it is. it is the most perfect sailfish reel. Others can comment on this as well and share opinions.

I do agree with the other guys however on the other 'regular' Andros models. Clicker can definitely be louder. This aside the Andros lineup are some really amazing reels

Just to follow up - I spoke with Okuma on the phone and they were very helpful. They said they would send out some stronger springs for me to try -- still waiting for those, but hopefully they will show up soon!

Will let you all know how they work.

Well - I've chatted with the Okuma tech guys twice on the phone, but so far still haven't received any stronger springs.

Okuma: if you're monitoring this thread, maybe you can suggest some part numbers for us to try? I don't mind ordering the springs myself!

Hi Joe,
I just spoke with our service team and they remember your call. You may have spoken to Eddie and Ronald. Per those two, they said that we do not have a different spring to offer.

Sorry
Okuma

Thanks for following up. Really love the reels, but would be great if you guys would think about an option for a louder clicker!

I have to agree. They are some of the quietest clickers I've ever encountered.
