Default TLD 30II anythoughts

Rivermarine seems to be running a decent sale on Shimano TLD 30II's. I was thinking of buying one and spooling it with 40lb mono to troll for tuna up here (MA). Anythoughts on whether it will have enough stopping power?

No luck on Sunday, tons of birds, whales and some stripers but no tuna on the NW corner.

I have four combos of TLD II's with cape fear rods spooled with 50lb diamond. It does a good job with med yfts, but for 50-100 lb fish i would still prefer my 80's.

yep if you get a real bruzer of a fish on those TLD2spds can get there drag smoked, so the question is do you want to be over gunned for many of the fish you catch, or do you want to lose the trophy ( or fight it till it's useless to eat) with the smaller gear? seems like your in an area where you could run into them Bad a$$ bluefins. I'd get wide fifty's and spool them with 80# good luck!

FWIW-
we were catching 125lb striped marlin on them down in East Cape.
Not a bad reel for the $$$$$$$$$

I bottom fish with 2 of them. One on a Cape Fear the other on a St. Croix. Both have 80# braid with a mono top shot. They are a bit lighter than an aluminum framed reel of the same size. Helps when jigging. No problems to date.

I own every model of the TLD two speed series, and four of them are TLD30II's They're great reels. Give them some care and they last a long time. I can recommend them.
